Moving to Cubase...

For years I've only used hardware in my studio as I've never really been into the idea of writing music with a mouse and I perform live quite a bit so the MPC was the perfect tool for me. It has been at the heart of my studio for years and I still think it's as awesome today as when I first started using it. However...

My buddy who I share a studio with has recently got himself a PC and has lent me indefinitely his Mac G3. It's taking a little while to get my head around the software, but I can see advantages in using the computer for certain tasks (Recycle being a good example).

My main problem at the moment is getting Cubase to do all the wonderful things I've learnt to do on my MPC. Does anyone have any info or links regarding Cubase and how it interacts with the MPC? Esepcially things like controller numbers. For example, can I adjust the filter settings of the frequency and resonance of a sound in the MPC using Cubase. If so, how and which controller numbers are they?

Any help would be much appreciated.

im not really sure if you can do that with cubase but u can still make tracks with ur mpc and add effects and what not in cubase after u dump the tracks into it.. thats what i do..

dont know if this is possible (i use a 60 with logic/digital performer) but I do not see why not, it is possible to control all other synths by ccs and sysex so should be easy enough.

but re. doing it this route: if you do it in the mpc now, and all is cool, keep doin it inthe mpc. use the software for other things, like recording the audio output, using plug in fx, chopping up samples whatever. this is how i do it, and by continuing to actually sequence on the mpc you got the creative flow kept where it should be. I found that it is real easy to get bogged down in techy things when trying to actually write music on a computer. but for other things i couldnt live without it.

btw I presume your g3 is running os9... if it is, then try to check out digital performer 3 cos it's the dogs Bs!
