Not sure on this one. Maybe it's a state to state issue, I would do a search on this to make sure. As far as I know, as long as you don't open the package or send it to someone else and they don't open it. It will be post dated and considered "evidence" of your works. But I do know it is not very STRONG in court, so if you just did some work on the fly and someone requested material, you could do that while your copyright is pending, but you are protected upon the date of receipt at the Library of Congress anyway.
