Share your knowledge on these two classic MPCs

Can anyone guide me step by step through the process, I understand that I have to insert a blank bar and dump midi SYSEX data from the module/sampler into the blank bar during record or step edit, but I can't seem to get it right. If anyone here has been done this with either the 3K or 60 let me know.

A step by step with the module/sampler of your choice would be nice, I know I am close but am missing something. Thanks in advance.

No one here uses modules or samplers with the 3K?

No love for a brotha or what, what I'm trying to do is dump the preformance/patch data from my modules into the MPC via SYSEX and it never works.

Or is this a bunch of rookies here discussing which MPC is better? Cmon people.

The topic was unfolding on the other list ... you know, if you're the same person that started this topic else where then you've already got some of the information to get you started.

Right ?

Not that simple though.

Your modules will be particular to "your" setup.

I could give you an example based on doing this with say, a Roland JD990 or a Kawai K5000 ...

You don't use those though ... do you ?

If I did put together such an example for you... you'll still have to extrapolate the information presented and transform it within the framework of your connected equipment to make things work.

Not all modules are the same where Bank and Patch selection are concerned.

Where SYSEX is concerned ... each becomes even more unique.

Page 83 of the MPC3000 *.PDF manual available from the mothership, www.akaipro.com has the topic:

"Recording MIDI System Exclusive Data"

Read this section and the MIDI implemenation charts on SYSEX managment for your specific modules to get a feel for this task.

I miss my K5K. Should have never sold it, but I do not have much room for keys. I would like to find a rack version.

It's a hardcore piece.

Yep ... K5000 user/owner ...

Used to sell heaps of them in a past life too ... That is a different story though. :-)

Have owned various incarnations of the machine.

5000S, 5000W and at one stage, a 5000R with MCB.

Currently settled on a 5000S with the ME-1 board.

I hope to hang on to it for years to come.

That's funny, I got mine in Darwin from a guy that bought it from a store in adelaide. When I came back to the states I changed the power internally with a little help from kawai.

I have an S with the ME-1 expansion as well. I don't really get to program it much, 128 harmonic envelopes isn't an easy task, and I'm not big on sounddiver, but I always get very useable results when I take the time.
