Hi everyone.
I got a very cheap adapter working by ravaging a failed abortion which was meant to be an SCSI card reader for my S1100. Here's a quick graphical report:
-Pull away the floppy drive. Save the power cable.

-Get a standard ATAPI ribbon cable from a computer and drill a hole through any blind connectors.

-Get a cheap CF adapter and set the pins to IDE master.

-Get a CF card, preferrably from a decent brand (I believe many cheap cards will give problems, I've got a generic one somewhere which I will try and see what happens).

-Get a bracket (it is not strictly necessary though...). The one I had is about the worst one you can possibly find, just a piece of metal with a couple of holes.

-Stick a piece of sh*t to the bracket to level the card connector with the slot. Use glue for instant gratification, or screws if you want a neat and durable solution.

-Attach the adapter to the piece of sh*t.

-Connect the ribbon and the power supply cable.

-Fit the bracket the best way you can. If you were lazy enough to use glue, be extra careful so that the adapter doesn't detach (it took me two tries, you can do better

).

-The result is... not too shabby actually.

-Stick the card into your brand-new reader. By the way, I LOVE the bacon pads. You haters. They even glow in the dark, what more do you want?

-OMG it works!

If you are unlucky enough to use the same adapter as mine and a similar mounting bracket, then the power cable will probably be too tight, because the connector doesn't quite fit inside the gap between the adapter and the MPC case, and because the cable is too short.
-Take the connector and peel away the little plastic bump.

-There, nice and smooth.

-Do something to increase the length of your cable (I peeled the rubber, twisted the cables together, added a drop of solder and wrapped it all up). Make sure the cable layout is the same as in the original cable!

-The cable now fits fine, and you can put the bottom lid without further trouble.

-Saving a sound just to be sure...

-The sound loads correctly. Challenge complete.

Of course, if you buy the components specifically for fitting into the MPC you will probably have a lot less trouble than trying to fit some components you already have at home. But in any case, cheap adapters work and you can easily save $100 by doing this.
So yeah, I was bored and decided to install a CF reader on my MPC and take photos of all the process (I was actually quite okay with the floppies, I had tons of them... I miss them now

). Since it would be a waste to simply delete the photos, I decided to upload them here and force you to see them so that you can waste as much time watching them as it took me to take them and upload them

.
