Mpc 2500 tact switch question

Hey all first post here, let me add ive been referring to this forum for quite some time and have found it extremely insightful

So my issue is that my mode button has stopped working completely, it was a bit sticky for a while then crapped out this morning on me in mid-jam. I understand these buttons will go especially the more heavily used ones but I'm opening a show at the end of this week using my mpc as the focal point(banging shit out live).

Im aware of getting new switches and desoldering/soldering in the new ones and ive ordered the switches already but they obviously wont get here in time and i need to rehearse anyway.
Would i be able to desolder a functioning switch from a button on the 2500 i dont often use and solder that into my "mode" button spot?
I just wasnt sure if this would do the trick or not or if i needed to just wait for the new ones to come in

yes, this would work.

you can also try deoxit. if you are on jjosxl than you could control the mpc´s buttons and stuff via a midi controller/keyboard/etc.

you could probably even desolder your garage opener button tact switch...but what you described will work

you could solder 2 pieces of wire to either terminal, run them out through the button hole, and tap them together whenever you need the button. hotwire.

Having a hard time getting the board off to fix the tact switch. feel like im forcing the bottom piece with the blue ribbon.

Any suggestions on getting this part off, i dont wanna damage her

That one had me stumped for a bit too. There are plastic tabs either side of the black connector, it looks like they're part of the connector, but if you pull them down you'll find it releases the flat blue cable really easily.

Thanks everyone I'm almost there, let me add this is my first time attempting something like this in taking the MP apart besides replacing pads so I may be coming off as a little unknowledgeable but gotta start somewhere.

The white wire connections to the board(1 red between rec. gain and main volume) are pretty tough for me to get out as well. ive got my eyeglass repair kit out and working at this now. I can see the arrows on the connector pieces and it looks like your supposed to push down on either side and pull out? Im just not getting any play and feel like im going to damage something if I keep at it like this..

i think all white connectors pull out in the direction of the cable, without any clasps etc.

it just comes straight out.

the ribbon connector is the trickiest til you understand how it works. the rest are pretty straightforward.

Hopefully this is the last question i have, but if im removing a functioning tact switch to replace my mode button tact, will i be able to leave the slot empty that i just took the switch from or if i leave it empty will it mess up the board? (Seeing as its now an empty spot on the pcb board, will it effect how the machine performs?

Having an empty slot where a tact switch used to be won't effect the board, it'll run fine.

I did the same at first with the +/- button taken out to replace the mode switch, didn't cause any problems.

What's good everyone? Just wanted to let you guys know the issue has been fixed, back to the beats now! LZ, i did refer to that post, could have saved myself from asking a couple of questions if i checked it sooner...

Deoxit worked like a charm on my 2500. I had a few buttons that wouldn't work unless I practically jammed my finger into the casing! I definitely try the spray before de-soldering any tact switches. In fact, I'd recommend any 1000 or newer MPC users to buy some deoxit and tune the buttons up anytime they remove the casing..at least once every few years. Unless the MPC isn't being used much, funky acting tack switches are inevitable.

Same for me. My F1 and track mute buttons were acting more & more rebellious, but some deoxit brought back some discipline! Now everything's working like it's brand new.
