Best/Cheapest way to fix my 2 mpc1000 problems?

dead pad 8 (MIXER) & pad 16
to order a new sensor sheet right.. (already have pad upgrade) but is eBay cheapest option for new sheet?


16 levels button not working
plastic piece is intact, button not registering when pressed. Haven't tried contact cleaner yet, not exactly sure how to go about that. Tips?

a bunch of other of the smaller plastic buttons aren't registering properly when pushed... wondering if you guys have experience dealing with this?

I would use deoxit on the faulty buttons and then get a pad sheet from mpcstuff, or ebay. So you do have the pad fix correct? and it has been working since upgraded? Try just wiping clean the pad sheet and see if that helps, my 1k pad sheet would get dirty as hell, not sure how dirt would get in there but it did

yes unfortunately I have many issues concerning tact switches on the PCB. These are the switches under you plastic buttons. They are woeful and cheap ones that are a joke for this type of machine. And I have replaced a few only to see them fail again. I am sourcing better tact switches and will have to get a fair few to replace every one on the PCBs.

yeah, I have the pad fix. I wiped the sensor the other day and it didn't help.

Deoxit on my tact switches did wonders. It was working 3 times out of 5. It has been working perfectly for the last 6 months or so.

I am almost convinced that the problems with the tact switches arise from oxidation inside on the contacts. The ones I replaced still 'clicked' alright when pressed so I think that they are alright mechanically they are probably just 'dirty' inside.

I would advise people to try the Deoxit approach first if they are botherd about soldering. Mind you, a can of deoxit is more expensive than buying a few switches (depending where you get the switches from of course!)

yeah try contact cleaner of corse, but trust me its the switches, they are not rated for amount of cycles needed. ie cheap ones not worth using. Replacing with same will just lead to same outcome if you use MPC a lot, so you have to replace them with better rated ones. more expensive but worth it

Is there a trick to yanking the plastic buttons off properly? I tried last time I had opened my MP and they seemed tough to remove.

I think the pads for MPC-1000 have to be replaced with new designed pads (but I think you know this already.)

For the tact switch, I think you should just desolder it and put the new one in. It's just easier to replace it than using Detoxit etc.
They are very cheap. It shouldn't cost more than 50 cents each. For my MPC-2000XL, I bought a bag of tact switch (I think it was 25 tact switches in it) for less than 20 cents each. (check my posting in the past.)
I believe the tact switches that are used on MPC-1000 are exactly the same type. It is the most common tact switch, even Radio Shack might have it.
