The scsi upgrade isn't available for sale from anwhere I don't believe. The only time you will see it up for sale is if someone is selling a second hand version. Failing that you can sometimes find beat up old mpcs for sale that have the scsi kit, but they don't go for peanuts as people know the kits are worth a few notes.

There is a dude currently trying to replicate the kit, to what success I don't know. He was lurking on the forum a few weeks back asking for detailed piccies, and a few other places aswell. Would be nice if we could get a diy version of the kit running, as it's obvious Roger linn won't be selling it again.

micb thanks for the insight on the scsi upgrade i just got an email reply back from the company that sells the HXC floppy emulator they said i can use that without the need of the marion scsi upgrade i know the load time might be slower but it beats the hell out walking with all them dang floppys. Oh yeah what up B.read thanks for welcoming me to the board.

Although there are only a few components on the SCSI board, I would stay away from purchasing any homebrew/DIY solution that was cobbled together from internet photos.

I would imagine that Tom Oberheim would consider discussing licensing out his design for the SCSI board to someone that wanted to manufacture them for the right price. But you would also need permission to sell the OS upgrade from Roger Linn as the SCSI interface is useless without it.

Everyone wants a cheap solution to put some kind of card reader in their MPC60. There will always be some knucklehead trying to pirate and sell the OS or the SCSI interface. But those solutions if they're even done reasonable well are not going to be any cheaper than going the HxC route which is a working solution.

Im gonna rock with the HXC cause i aint trying to buy no diy scsi board that could mess up my mp hell na. Thats why i made sure i copped legit 3.10 eproms for my mp. Question is there not a big enough demand or is it that Roger linn and marion systems cant be botherd to make the parts anymore cause theres not enough money in it for them if thats the Case than they should cut deals with smaller companies to put them out i just think Roger linn is doing it cause he's'trying to push the "tempest" cause it just seems a bit weird that all this stuff stopped being produced once it dropped.

Yeh I just ordered a hxc emulator for my 60. I mean the unit only costs £80 delivered to your door. Compared to buying a scsi kit £200+?? (that's if you can even get one) and then a cf reader on top of that which is another £150.

It makes sense for me anyway beings as the 60s only being used for drums so samples will be fairly small. I just can't be arsed to mess around with floppys. They aren't cheap either, or that easy to come by. To anyone who wants to cop a hxc emulator they are listed on ebay. Just search floppy emulator.

Crate king, you gotta remember now the mpc60 user base must be tiny (on the big scale of things), that coupled with the fact that maybe a large number of mpc 60s already have scsi, I expect the demand was very small and just didn't justify selling it anymore. Of course there will always be a demand for them, but just not on a level where they are viable to manufacture and sell, and make a decent profit.

Like the other dude said, They are probably banking on the fact some company will want to buy the licensing so they can start producing them.

Then why did you write this in your original post (important part in bold)?

Nothing weird about it. The Tempest has absolutely nothing to do with his decision. Discontinued due to lack of demand. The SCSI protocol is old technology, modern storage devices use SAS and SATA. Having SCSI on the MPC is useful in some cases. If the only reason you want SCSI is to hook up a CF Reader, then a HxC is a simpler option.

Roger Linn should be commended for supporting a product for more than 20 years after its original release date.

Ok you guys are right i was just being stuborn the HXC is the better option i pre orderd the 3.5 version sunday so i should have it by end of month i was just pissed cause i found a scsi card reader that worked but couldnt find the scsi upgrade . But now that i got the HXC coming its all good. Now all i gotta do is find someone on the forum who got a template with the layout for the mpc 60II i gotta touch mine up paint wise.
