I am a new owner of a MPC1000, and i was starting to get a hold of things when something had gone wrong. I am not sure what happened perhaps i was playing around with settings and hit some sort of mute. When i plug in my head phones, or an output i am able to hear sounds when in the Load section. Nevertheless, when i go to MODE: PLAY FROM: with the window of the two bars, no sound is produced. This is after loading sounds.

If you have any advice i would greatly appreciate it.

have you assigned the samples to a pad each and made a program? this is the next step after loading your samples

yes. i have assigned the sounds to each pad. The problem is after they have been assigned/loaded they are showing up as "assigned" or a specific sound; however, when i punch the pad no sound comes out.

ok so you are using akai OS right not JJOS?
I think you might have not set the tracks program. Every drum track needs to know what program to use and you set this in main screen. It is defaulted to off i think, so set that and this means pads should sound, now the track knows what program it is using. otherwise you get nothing.
Also
it might be that the filter settings in the program are such that you can not hear anything. Turn on MPC and do not Autoload. Start from scratch with a new program so everything is set to default. That is first thing to help to problem solve. then load and make program yourself. Then go into program and check filter is off and level is 100. Then assign program to track. Put on full level and it should sound

yeah, i am using Akai OS. I tried going to the main. I tried setting it to off, and setting it to program 1 and no. 1. I can't seem to get the sound working on the function: PLAY FROM (Pad 15).

Also how to you avoid Auto Load? Sorry this device is just not working the same way it had for the first few weeks that i was working with it.

yeah you have to assign program to track, and assign pad sample to pad in the program. So as I said you need to make sure that samples are assigned and program is chosen to. Also check you are on right bank in the program. yo might be on bank B or something.

Lifted from the manual...

Setting the auto load function:
In default, the auto load function, which loads the preset
sounds and demo sequence automatically when you switch
on the MPC1000, is activated. You can deactivate this function
so that the MPC1000 will not load anything when
switched on.
01. Press the [WINDOW] key in the LOAD from field of
the LOAD page.
The Load Setup window will be displayed.
02. In the Autoload field, set the field to OFF.
03. Press the [F4] (CLOSE) key to close the window.
Next time you switch on the MPC1000, it will not
load anything.
Tips : You can load the preset sounds and the demo sequence
separately by selecting the INTERNAL MEMORY in the LOAD
from field of the LOAD page.
Tips : When you insert the memory card, which has AUTOLOAD
folder, into card slot and switch on the MPC1000, the MPC1000
will load the AUTOLOAD folder in the memory card automatically,
regardless of the setting in the Autoload field.

What confuses me is that you are talking about PLAY FROM. This is only relevant when you entered the TRIM mode (MODE + PAD6). Is that what you're talking about?

Otherwise you might try to interpret PLAY FROM like 'play my sample'. But instead you just hit PAD15. Then it matters if you assigned a sample to PAD15 in the program which is set for the current track.

Please try the following:
- Load your samples as you did before.
- Press MODE + PAD7 (Program Mode). Navigate the cursor to the right of "Pgm", hit WINDOW, F3 (new program), and hit DO IT.
- Cursor down to the right of the "1" (or hit PAD1) and then turn the DATA WHEEL. Now you should be able to scroll through the samples you loaded before (they will be at the very end of the list).
Enable FULL LEVEL and hit PAD1 (the pad you assigned a sample to). There should definitely be some sound now.

(actually this was a paraphrasation of page 58 in the manual (http://www.akaipro.com/company/media2.php?download_id=DWJXMwRmAWM%3D) -- but I was not quite sure if you already studied this document)

Please check that. In case there is sound, then your MPC works properly I guess. You should consider studying the manual in more depth. In case there is still no sound, it is a strange thing. Double-check it with other samples and so on...

Another try:
Nr. 1 is loaded by the autoload function right? So that one should work (as long as you didn't overwrite the autoload with some strange data). So try going to the MAIN screen, cursor down to the right of "Pgm:" and select a program with the DATA WHEEL (in standard autoload there should be a program DJ-Hip_Set and so on. Ensure that FULL LEVEL is activated and that Bank A is lighted. Hit e.g. PAD2, PAD3, PAD6, PAD7. There should be samples playing. In this case PAD15 ("PLAY FROM") might not work because there might be no sample assigned to this pad.
