Corrected.

Also why are people saying something that requires software and thus needs to be connected to a computer with replace standalone sequencers of the traditional MPC range?

It will replace hardware MPCs ONLY for thos that are looking for a replacement. I will always keep at least 1 hardware MPC. I wish the MPC 2500 wasn't discontinued.

The Ren is $1400.00 after taxes. That price needs to come down! It's too high for a controller/interface and some software. At that price they need to include some decent vst/vsti's.

If you want a stand alone machine the Ren is not it, it's a controller that needs a computer to fully operate. Think about that and don't get caught up trying to speculate on gear that hasn't even been announced and spec'd yet. If you wanna wait and see then wait. If you don't and want a machine that can run fully at anytime standalone AND/OR computer connected then get a 1k/2k.

If you are a computer sequencer type person then the Ren or Maschine should be added to your research as well.

Wise words.

musicstore in germany announces it for 899 € (= 1.185$).

i wonder: if you order it now and akai will increase their prices - would musicstore still have to charge you only 899 €? and if you pay it now?

having said that, i am not interested in the renaissance. and i am curious whether a success of the renaissance will give akai the impression that it will be better to never release another real hardware sampler again. or maybe they will take the money and tell their developers: "now we have the money to build a real cool mpc AND support it. do it!"

i think this is one reason why a lot of people are skeptical because they fear it's the end of the line for hardware mpcs.

Check this link:-

Chemical Records UK has them listed :-

Akai

MPC Fly :: Music Production Controller for iPad 2
Info Forthcoming MPCFLY £99.17 (£119.00 inc. VAT)

Those are fair prices, as Maschine was 500, so with the IO Audio built in 650 is the price I was looking for, excellent!! I'm going to start saving.
