Do you plan on purchasing one of the new Akai MPC models?

I'm more worried about waking the neighbours with the sound it makes!

Well...MPC 2500 users can always get it modded with a quieter rotary dial or just sell it and buy the MPC Ren when its available.

Nobody has come up with a definitive replacement part, otherwise I'd have already replaced it by now.

I was listening to Dan speak about the MPC Ren again..watched this dozens of times (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-3ZTxgDyis). And several things stood out to me:

1. It's our mission to make sure the pads feel right
2. Creating a custom low latency USB audio driver
3. Creating a custom MIDI driver; 10x faster than standard MIDI
4. LCD data communicated using a private port; pad MIDI data won't interfere w/LCD
5. Touch sensitive Qlinks (rotary pots)
6. Making a committment to update the software, constantly add new features
7. Acknowledges JJ OS...conscious about what Akai customers like about the JJ OS

I think that's numbers 1, 2, and 3!

Hard to tell at this point if I will be picking up the MPC Ren. At this point, all I've seen is a 90-second trailer with araabmuzik playing stock sounds
I'd like to try one of these out either way. Is August still the expected release date?

Tht was like a death sentence wasnt it.Just like the main advert no new original sounds or rhythms.People can call me negative towards this new MPC bur cmon akai your all talk and no action!!!!!!Nothing to go on except fantasy specs.Post up or shut up....Wanna see a white/chinese or disabled HUMAN do something interesting with THE BEAST Is anyone except me interested in a real creative sampler?Not some fashion object geared towards the long dead hiphop clique?

exactly. the studio? yeah theres a better chance of me getting that instead of the Ren because I haven't really seen the differences between the two to make me say 'omg heres an extra $700 akai ' sure I think the ren looks better cause it looks like a regular MPC, but not nice enough for an extra $700

I wish the new mpc line was all about sound quality and timing/sequencing. It isn't though; it's about sales. Akai Pro should be called Akai 'Simon Cowell' because it's not about sound and timing.... it's about making money for the company.

The Studio gives the best value for money IMO. You get the same software and sounds but in a much sleeker package. Half of the qlinks on the Ren will probably never get used, and the interface will be of a lower quality to what we've already got in our studios.

Yup, at NAMM I see they were using the EIE interfaces, that might be the same converters in the Ren too.

Also, to get the 3000 sound via the hardware you still have to track out like we're doing already.

I've not seen a definitive answer as to how they have modelled the vintage mode in software either. Not even a basic response about how they've done it.

Nothing I have seen from threads or studios pics that lead me to believe many people in this forum have highend interfaces (AD/DA converters). Besides, its 2012 and technology has significantly advanced and become cheaper. 2 channels of AD conversion/4 channels of DA conversion are not expensive. The retail price of Apogee 2 In/4 Out AD/DA converters (Duet 2) is less than $600. That is less than $100 per channel...retail. Apogee Ensemble? Less than $125 per channel retail. How much do you think it cost to manufacture those converters?

So why spend all your time in this forum assuming the worst when the product hasn't been released yet? Numark/Akai is working hard to release a quality product. They've added 24 bit AD/DA converters. Product managers have been in the forums communicating with forum members and implementing feature suggestions as well as noting concerns.

Take the MPC Studio if you need something more reasonably priced. EVen if I plan on using "higher-end' converters, I would still go with the MPC Ren. The Qlinks may go underutilized if you don't take advantage of their capabilities or opt to use the cursor keys and data wheel......
