8 out problem with mpc 2000 xl

Hey guys!

I'm going to buy an used MPC 2000 XL. The only fault in it, is that the installed 8 out is kinda twisted. Output 1 comes from output 2 and ouput 2 comes from output 1. The same problem is for every output (3 -> 4 / 4 -> 3 ... etc)

I think it aint a big problem but it would be great if I could fix it. Any suggestions?

i dont know how to fix it, but if you could live with it (TRY IT OUT FIRST), just use it as a bargaining chip to get the price down low. that is not a fully functioning unit.

Yeah.. I know. I'm pretty scared about it.. My state of mind says I should be patient and wait for another MPC 2000 XL to show (Really aint that often in my country)
But my brains can't live anymore another day without it! haha.. if u know what i mean

EDIT: the user from who im MAYBE gonna buy it, says that he aint got any problems with that. He has lived with it and done many works. Just have to remember tho the output twists.

if that's the case, then like i said, just try to get it for a lower price, and if you like it, and if it does turn out to be a problem, then you can wait a little longer til you find a new one.

sounds like the ribbon cable is **** up or something..

I wonder, could the 8 outs board be from another akai sampler and someone screwed something up?

either way, get it cheap, or pass on it... you dont even need the 8 outs.. to be honest. Yes it is nice, but you dont need it... you certainly dont need a messed up 8 outs.. so offer him what the machine is worth without the expansion... maybe a little bit less even.

yea i would offer even less - i wouldn't even make mention of the fact that the 8 outs is 'optional'...you are buying the whole package and the whole package doesnt' function as it should...you need to get a discount because if one thing is wrong...what else might be wrong (maybe nothing)?

i mean dont be an **** about it, if homedude has been using his 8 outs he is probably pretty smart so no need to disrespect him, just be honest.

it is odd though.. like, either a ribbon or something is messed up physically, or there is something wrong on the OS side of things.. but we know that aint the case so it's just funny that it still works at all.. lol

But yeah thanks for your support, guys. Im trying to get it cheap. It really makes me think that its kinda old, one knob is missing, and 8 out is **** up ... it sounds like the machine is going to fall apart in any second..

I really should ask if he is the first user of that machine..


BUT in the other hand, the knob is something like 5 dollars, and new pads would be aight with new sensor layer... I really dont even need the 8 out first tho... So if i would get it cheap, get the knob and change the pads & sensors it might be a very good deal for me too.

yeah with things like that missing, I might pay 200 for it since it needs work... sure, 5 bucks for a knob, but if you aren't able to solder then you need to bring it to a tech guy... sensor sheets go for like 80+ dollars USD.. last time I checked...

for a first machine, I would say move on to a fully functioning one.. if you are into spending a bit to restore it .. or you have another thing to make music on while you fix that one then maybe go for it... plus, it sounds like it's quite used or worn in which is fine on an old tank like that.. but just keep in mind you may also need to replace the LCD screen as well.. new screens just been created by envision electronics so that adds many more years to the machine's life.. the LCD screen used to be the 2000/xl's weakest link.

Thanks for the tips.. I think im gonna look for working one tho... Damn. Too many days without the legendary mpc 2000 xl! But anyway, no1 u have no idea why the 8 out is twisted like that?
