Thinking about starting from scratch

I got my mpc in 03 and never sample in anything except stereo. Was never a problem until I recently got an 8 out board. I'm pretty sure I can change te samples to mono but I have thousands..would it make since to start changing these samba or should I just leave them alone? I have a 2000xl, and I have an 8 out board as mentioned. I run it to my motu 828 interface and track in logic. The problem with having drums in stereo is it takes up two channels thus limiting the amount of tracks I have for drums. So I guess my question is.."is there a fast way to change stereo samples to mono?
Also, is there an mpc editor for MAC that will allow me to drag an drop sounds onto a program on the desktop, save to a disk...insert disk in mpc and have te same layout as the desktop?

i went down this road a bit when i got my 8 outs.
my first suggestion, just put in the legwork and convert the samples in the mpc...
TAKE NOTE:
your files are gonna come out sample1____L and sample1____R - which is going to give you HELL on a pc and will basically erase your samples. if you do split them in the mpc, be sure to rename the one you are keeping to a name that is 8 chars or less, or just name it the same as the original sample, but be careful with that or you could overwrite your stereo samples.

my second suggestion, a little more involved in the computer area, is to download 'sox' for mac and we can help write you a script to batch-process all of your samples at once. you can either split and keep only the left or right samples, or you can combine both channels to one mono file. if you rename the files the same as the original (backup your originals), then you wont even need to do anything as the mpc will just load them correctly.

im willing to help write the code to do the processing in sox, but you have to understand this will require a little doing on your part. first, you will need to install 'macports' so you can install sox via the OS X terminal. then you install 'sox', then you have to copy your sounds to a folder where we can run a script on all of them at once.

so it's really up to you, but yea, it's gonna take some work somewhere.

Thanks tape deck. I am not a very computer Davy person and the thought of writing code kind of scares me..lol..check this out. I have an iMac and currently use sandisk compact flash cards in my drive. Can you suggest a good USB card reader that I can attach to the Mac. I assume I will certainly need one unless there is a magic mpc to USB cord I don't know about lol...for now I think I am going to change samples as needed. I say I wanna start from scratch because I would like to be more organized going forward. Scrolling to find sounds can be tedious at times as you may already know. Again thanks for te reply and I will check out sox and see what I can do

what i was saying was i would write the code (id like to know myself) but youd still have to operate it via terminal in OS X.

any usb card reader will work but let me also point out that there is a bout a 50/50 split between people who can use card readers with macs and those who can't.

i have a hot-swap mutli-card reader, and if my cards ever touch a mac, they become unusable. i have to load them up into windows just to erase all these hidden files.
the only way around this is to always use windows with my mpc-cards - i have installed virtualbox running winxp inside the mac and that's the only way it works for me.

some people with non-hotswap card readers dont have these big of problems.

but it's something to consider.

You could use Awave Studio to batch convert them in no time at all but unfortunately you are a Mac user.

You could try Translator but even though I have been using it from the time it was released to now I find it hard to recommend.
It gives pretty inconsistent results consistently.
It runs just as strange on my Macbook as it does on my Win7 machines.
