After copying notes using copy function in 2nd grid mode and pasting them, notes got doubled instead of replaced in steps on which they existed before. Is this a bug? Is there an automated way to delete doubled notes?

Hello,

Your question is not very clear.

Which JJ OS? What's 2nd grid mode?

I know there's an issue with SEQ EDIT functions doubling notes but it's probably not related with your problem.

Sorry for that. I'm using 2XL v3.16 and by 2nd grid mode I meant this http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/os2 ... drumv3.htm instead of grid in the main view. I used a copy function that's available there. If I paste notes over existing notes, if overwritten sequence and pasted sequence had a note on the same tick, they get doubled.

I'm still not 100% sure of what you want to do but the first solution is : you go in step edit and delete manually the double notes.

With the old grid behavior you had to copy, delete and then paste. You can still do that or use the cut function.

Otherwise you can use the SEQ EDIT functions and use the REPLACE option instead of the MERGE option.

But indeed, there is a workflow issue with the MPC regarding MERGE/REPLACE.
A while back I requested a MERGE+REPLACE or MERGE-REPLACE behavior in SEQ EDIT. The main idea of this feature request is instead of getting double notes, the already existing note is overwritten or remains in its original state.

Bummer. There is a function of deletion of doubled notes in Cubase, would like to see this implemented in JJOS. I know I can do it by hand but it's pretty time consuming.
Your idea is good and would solve the problem. I consider current behaviour as a bug, because I see no reason why anyone would ever want to have the notes doubled.

i am also unclear on what you're saying. so you're using COPY/PASTE over existing data and you want it to REPLACE instead of MERGE the data?

if i have a sentence and i copy one of the words and paste it back into the sentence, i get this:

if i have a sentence sentence and i copy one of the words and paste it back into the sentence, i get this:

you have to delete stuff before pasting over it if you don't want the original data to be there.

i put in a request for a SEQ EDIT duplicate filter a while back.

if( note1 = note2 and time of abs(note1 - note2) < X, then delete note2 )

When you put a note on every quaternote in a bar and go to step edit, you will see 4 notes there. If you then go back to grid edit and use COPY function that is under F2 key and copy these 4 notes by highlighting them and then go to the first step of this bar and paste them, when in step edit mode, 8 notes will be seen - every note from the original sequence will be doubled on the same position.

I think it would be better if they got overwritten resulting in having only one note on a given position. Rest of the sequence would be merged normally with the existing sequence.

you know what, i think i agree
when is it ever necessary to have 2 of the exact same note at the exact same time?
i think that regardless of the instance (copying, like the original poster) or recording/overdubbing, there should never be exact duplicates timewise

^ I agree, did this get reported?
