if the only thing the mpc uses from the pc is the CPU power

Much cheaper than $1300.00, requires no computer, and the pads won't light up! YOUR DREAM MPC HAS FINALLY COME TRUE! hahaha!
Yes, I'd love to have an OS update for my 2000XL to run VST's, read MP3's and FLAC files, be able to install a SATA SSD drive, save beats in a pro-tools readable format, real-time timestretch, import/export to 24bit without a computer, but its not gonna happen, and for less than the price of Maschine?? Folks are dreaming!

I remember the days when you actually had to pay $1000 for a new MPC 1000...no memory expansion..no hard drive...and the OS (edit: and pads) were subpar compared to the 2000XL.

What I don't get is why do you want a new MPC? It's obvious you don't prefer the advantages of a computer workflow and would rather stick to hardware. So why not continue using your current MPC? All the MPC's from the 4000 and up can do everything the Ren will be able to do minus the computer workflow. What exactly are you looking for?
