Just because HF used the word jipped/gypped, it still doesn't discredit what he said. Most people cry and whine to JJ to add functions, or dream of OS updates for their older MPC to do unimaginable things. Well, now the time has come where an MPC can do everything you asked for, and the only problem people can think of is "I got to plug it up to my computer" (when their computer is sitting right next to the mpc anyways, and probably used in some sort of way to make music) or "$1300, c'mon akai, this is bulls#it" (when you probably paid the same amount or more for your ancient mpc!)
If the USB cord being connected to the computer or the price is enough for you to dislike the new MPC's, Ebay has older MPC's listed by the ton! I just seen a 2000 with a floppy drive for $200.00. Much cheaper than $1300.00, requires no computer, and the pads won't light up! YOUR DREAM MPC HAS FINALLY COME TRUE! hahaha!
Yes, I'd love to have an OS update for my 2000XL to run VST's, read MP3's and FLAC files, be able to install a SATA SSD drive, save beats in a pro-tools readable format, real-time timestretch, import/export to 24bit without a computer, but its not gonna happen, and for less than the price of Maschine?? Folks are dreaming!

^ you raised a good point... why the hell is it... that nothing reads .flac files except for VLC and the flac to wav converter? I would have thought that by now daws would have the ability to read or convert .flac if they have been able to do the same with .mp3 for years.

I remember the days when you actually had to pay $1000 for a new MPC 1000...no memory expansion..no hard drive...and the OS was subpar compared to the 2000XL.

there's no money in flac.

Free Lossless Audio Codec

Apple's ALAC brought flac to the masses, and pushed flac even further onto the backburner.

it is a shame really because flac is such an awesome format.

yeah you are right... so many people seem to use it though still to this day. I most often come across it on public domain or royalty free sound sources or with those audiofile type people who "rip" their vinyl collections..

steinberg charges an additional 15 bucks I believe for the .mp3 codec for I believe exporting as mp3 in their their "sequel" program (similar to garage band)...

or why don't u put it a cpu in there from the beggining. will it be that expensiver anyway?

What I don't get is why do you want a new MPC? It's obvious you don't prefer the advantages of a computer workflow and would rather stick to hardware. So why not continue using your current MPC? All the MPC's from the 4000 and up can do everything the Ren will be able to do minus the computer workflow. What exactly are you looking for?

this is probably the answer to everyone who gripes that the new mpc ren is not standalone. on top of that prices of used mpc's are falling.
