Of the list of names, I've genuinely not heard of these guys... probably half the list like I said.

DiVinci, 88Keys, Jukebox, Kalil, Kay Gee, Scoop Deville, Sean C & LV, Tommy Brown, Battlecat, Bangladesh, Drum Squad, Jazzy Fey, Shortee Red, DJ Toomp, the cataracts.

Although there's a good chance I've heard their music at some point. 8)

Same here! I have heard of most of them but not all of them. BTW, you have to know Kay Gee. He's Naughty By Natures producer.

These are the ones I haven't heard of. I've heard of Hank Shocklee from PE, but not Keith Shocklee.

off the top of my head:

Divinci - Solliloquists of sound. check them out on youtube. they're underground, but incredible.
flying lotus - really trippy, out there groovy stuff wiht a j dilla sort of twist. young guy. a freakin genius.
Scoop DeVille works with Dr. dre. Not sure which tracks.
the Cataracts - Like a G6, Dancing in the dark (i-i-i-i-t's the cataracts!)
bangladesh - Young money. he did Six Foot, Seven Foot, and a Milli.
Sean C and LV - Jay Z "American Gangster"

also, this thread's way too long to find it, and I'm getting lost, but someone asked if you can turn the pads off. yes. you cna also customize them with 4 colors. like, say you want pads 1,3,5 and 9 to be red, because those are your bass notes, and you want 2, 4 and 10 to be green, you can do that instead of having them light by velocity.

Sounds good Dan. 8)

So what are the 4 colours? I've seen red and green but what are the other 2?

Also, how are those "discussions" about waveform editing on the controller coming along?

since the Ren is its own audio device, will it be able to sample the computer internal audio?

(for example, I have a movie running on my PC, and I want to sample a dialogue or anything else, or I'm playing a MP3 and I want to sample it, or a youtube video running in background)

will we just have to set something like "record from: internal" or will we need a separate audio interface and plug its outs to the ins of the Ren?

#2
while using the Ren software, can we ONLY use the Ren as an audio interface, or can we tell the software to use whichever audio interface we have plugged in instead of the Ren integrated audio?

#3
instead then the classic "play start", "play end", ... it would be great if we could have this (taken from JJOSXL):

Image

maybe instead of 200ms, make it 1sec?

+ one pad for reverse loop
+ one pad for reverse one-shot

the rest of pads for one-shot, and for looping the highlighted part of the sample.

and...
1 button for zooming in and 1 for zooming out, with the focus on what it's highlighted in that moment (start point or end point)
and...
1 button for maxing out the soundwave form (and 1 for minimizing it as well). This is another feature of JJOSXL that comes in handy to visually enhance the waveform to see its details and place starting and ending points

do you (Dan or Andy) think these features can be added? they are basically only enhancements to the classic MPC workflow, so they wouldn't be alienating for old users, and trust me... once you have tried them on the JJOS, it's hard to go back to the old way!

Dan will the Ren virtual outputs be routed to aux in a daw like Logic and can I drag the kick tracks, snare track, hi hat track from the Ren into my daw of choice as separate audio tracks?
By xparis001 Fri Feb 17, 2012 2:44 pm
you'll have 16 virtual outs in a DAW. you can also export all your tracks individually as wav, mp3, whatever. We dont drag, we export because rather than just having one track, we have 128, so it makes more sense.

Thanks Dan that is good to know.

1. What kind of step editor will it have? Will it be numeric like the classic mpcs?

2. Will it export 4k format for sure?

3. Will it have a program matrix like the 4k?

4. How is the Patch Phrase function working?

Is it 16 stereo or 16 mono? For example, Maschine has 16, but they are stereo, so I can choose either L or R of a channel in Pro Tools when routing a mono sound, which actually translates to up to 32 individual mono outs. Is this how Ren will be?

what would be dope too is if it could chop video clips the way it chops audio (the akai way) and you could route the visuals to the aux VGA output... and hear the sounds from the video as well.. like a built in kaptivator or something.
