Stanton T62

Im thinking of buying tthe stanton T62 turntable, seems like a good price/quality unit. Does anyone in here use one with his mpc? If so could you please tell me what you like about it and what not? Thanks, if this is in the wrong section, sorry!

I have it and don't like it.

I previously had a 1210, sold it for these, then bought another 1210.

The resale on them is silly, i ended up keeping them as spares because when i put them on ebay in new boxed condition a few weeks after buying them, i would have got less than half what i paid for them new.

They do work well and are cheap, but do feel feel cheap and plasticy, didn't feel like a good strong sturdy turntable like the 1210 so i never got along with it.

The thing that annoyed me most is that it doesn't have a lid. You get a cover but its just a fancy bit of material to stop dust so offers no protection.

Maybe a used 1210 instead? You can buy them and then sell them for the same price you paid if you want to change.

Yeah been looking at the 1210, but where I am it would mean another 100 euro on top of what I would spend on the t62. I thought of them as a good way to start messing around with my vinyls and if I liked spinning records I could always upgrade. Atm I am using a old turntable for sampling.

Buying a stanton turntable, then finding out you want more, selling the stanton for half the price and buy a 1210 which in the beginning would have been only 100 euro more than the stanton.

Saving up 100 euro more NOW, buy a 1210, and be done with it (and if you aren't happy, get the same money back again if you sell it).

You do the math.

PS: I usually hear people say the stanton is ok and quite usable, but never owned one. I do own a 1210 however, and i can assure you they are rock solid and will last a looooong time if treated well.

it will be fine for sampling, but really....if it's only 100 euro more for a 1210, you are paying way too much for that stanton. they are worth about 50 or even 40 euro.

stanton turntables are interesting - the st/str8-100 and 150 (and 90 which ive only ever seen in europe) are excellent machines ... they are actually the same +/- some knobs... but anything below that and the new lower-end models are really 'budget' decks.

Sorry man im looking at the price of a new stanton against the secondhand value of the technics aroudn these parts, also I would be buying two.. mhh maybe I should just save up.

they are not terrible tables but you will likely want to upgrade down the road, so i wouldn't spend too much money - and i guess i dont even consider new prices, sorry

No worrys, I think it says enough that im afraid to buy the t62 secondhand.

Buying new isn't always a blessing either IMO. I bought my 1210 new and still sealed in the box, and i'm upset about every little new scratch i notice in the dust cover... my used MPC's were never in this condition to begin with (they are almost mint tho ), so it never bothers me like that when it's about them.

Like other members said, I think it's wise to go for for used, or even worn-up SL-1200 Mk2 (or later model, they are about the same as SL-1200 Mk2.). Parts are widely available, and even a broken SL-1200 can be sold easily for parts.
You'll have hard time selling T62, even with good condition, and you know that resell value is very low.

Since its production has ended (I think) the last year, I am pretty sure that the value to SL-1200 MK2 will go up more (it is already happening though.)

I cannot overstate the durability of SL-1200. They sounds good, and it's a joy to use the turntable. I have them for more than 20 years, and they work just fine (the bulb doesn't lit anymore, but the bulb can be replaced.)

I do have a old cheap turntable, and I can tell you that SL-1200 sounds much, much better; almost no ground noise and more refined sound.

As a DJ, I don't mind using a budget DJ mixer, but I hate using cheap turntables. For example, a budget DJ mixer with two 1200 is OK, but a Rane mixer with twp 1200 knock-offs doesn't make sense to me.

I decided to go with a nice pair of sl1210's, found some for a nice price. Thanks for the info guys!
