I realize before asking that this question is probably completely stupid, so please try to hold back on the flaming.

Is it possible to connect studio monitors (KRK RP5's) direct to an MPC2500, or do I have to have an amp in between, either a standalone or Mbox etc.

Thanks.

I believe the RP5s are active (ie. powered) speakers so, if that's the case then yes you can connect them directly.

That is what I thought. They are powered and have the following inputs:

Unbalanced RCA
Balanced 1/4" TRS
Balanced XLR

I'm guessing I would used the unbalanced RCA from the Stereo L/R output on the MPC then.

Those monitors are active meaning they have an amp in them, yes you can connect them directly to an mpc main out.

2500 has balanced outs, just get a pair of balanced cables and connect them to balanced 1/4" TRS ins of your speakers.

Regardless of whether you go balanced or unbalanced, Make it easy on yourself. Use ¼" to ¼" cords.

Active monitors have their own amps inside.
That's why they are the ones with an electric cord on them?!?!?

lmao.
