When i did a direct comparison (using a drumbreak recorded into both machines), the MPC60 and S950 sounded VERY similar. In fact, almost exactly the same, except the 60 has a little more bass.

individual sounds might not sound much different, once you have track built with 20 samples the difference will prob be more evident.

I can say that the s950 can produce much more tighter drums which are more present and direct and punchy than when i play drumsamples on the mpc.

In addition to that i feel like the S950 is faster so the sounds which actually are on the same step get played after another in a shorter period of time than on the mpc.
this occurs alot of more power and punch in the sound. Thats what the 808 for example makes so groovy, it is because all the sounds really gets triggered at the very same time.

AFAIK the MPC internal sequencing is faster than sending the MIDI messages serial to an external device (no matter what sampler/soundmodul). Especially when modulations (for example cc masseges) are part of the sequence.
Dont know if any MPC works parallel tho.

if I had that input board for the s900 (damn you fobe 8) ) I would be tempted to mess with running the 8 outs from the 60 into the 8 inputs of the s900 for that audio triggering feature.. it sounds fun.

Never used a 900 or 950 only ever used a MPC-60 mk1 so can't comment but having talked to Linn he said the MPC-60 sampling engine is similar to the S-900 and also has per-emphasis to sound less muddy than the 900

His words not mine
