i know theres a bunch of scsi posts. i know about the search. i know i know.

but my problem is unique. see, I have no problem loading anything. But when I try to save I get an SCSI ERROR!!! Now, its not everytime I try to save. Its like every other time. First Ill get an scsi error then I press do it again and it says "too many files!!"

does my zip hate me now? i was faithful. i never went back to floppy :(

but seriously im really concerened about this. When it does give me an error i go to the drive select and change the drive to floppy, let it sit a bit then go back to 5, hit do it and it saves fine.

can anyone help?

the too many files thing is maybe that you have too many files in the root directory of the disk. there is a limit somewhere like 400-500 files in the root directory or something like that. Put stuff into folder and you should be fine.

The error thing, try saving allyour data on that disk to computer, then format that disk and make it all fresh, then load that data back onto it again.. I do this everynow and then along with defragging my zip disk and they are fine, I don't have any problems.

lamp you the man. sounds like it might work. but what was weird was that it tells me too many files but if i switch the drive id THEN go back to 5 it lets me save. :? im using the 2000 so im not sure if that reads folders. so ill just buy some new zip disks

but ill try that when i get home. appreciate your help man.

while im at radio shack i might as well get a pack of blank cd's too. so that works out. thanks

lamp your right! but your wrong on the 400-500 files if you open the root dicertory all the little line on your left is how many you can save i think theres like 12 but to make thing so dont run out of space here's what i do i make sub files , in the root dicertory make files for ex:

hiphopfldr

smplsnds

kitsfldr

so on ...so on...
then in side evry folder you create more folders you can make folders inside folders, evry song you make is a new folder just name it.
but yeah like lampdog said you may have reached you limit on your root dicertory. 250mb is a lot,i've had the three same disc for four years and i just ran out of space on one the other day, and i save evrything i do on my mpc.
hope this helps
peace

defrag on computer
no folders on 2k

http://kb.indiana.edu/data/aekm.html?cust=8173520.5778.30
"This is due to a limitation in FAT16, an older file system: There is a limit of 512 entries in the root directory. It doesn't matter if you still have a great deal of disk space free on the hard drive, the root directory can have a maximum of only 512 files."

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/reskit/en-us/prkc_fil_yksz.asp
"Each folder and 8.3 file name in the root folder counts as an entry. For example, because the maximum number of entries is fixed at 512, if you have 100 folders in the root folder, you can create only 412 more files or folders in the root folder. If those folders or files use names longer than the 8.3 format, fewer files and folders can be created."

my zip drive hates me too (im on my second one). i dont like to save or load all the time, and i always have to unplug it and plug it back in a few times to get the mpc to read it. Also, when i go to the load/save screen, i have to have it on scsi 4 or 7, then switch over to 5 (the zip) to "wake it up". crazy
