Buying cassettes

where do YOU do it?

only one local store still carries cassettes (wrong tape for my machine..)

thrift store... they usually sell [still sealed] cassettes for 50 cents. they're mixed in with all the other tapes though... if all else fails... ebay?

i only buy new, sealed cassettes but the garage sales have never let me down.

also my girl works at a book store that sells used cds and tapes etc and they just throw away the blank, still sealed cassettes, so she's been liberating those lately.

im hearing of some manufacturers almost completely stopping production (at least for type II cassettes) last year, dont know if its true though..
better stock up!

They carry small batches of brand tapes but manufacture type I or II tapes in tailor made lengths, and colors. Experienced, reliable but seems to be under a great workload right now.

In US, tapes.com (based right in Brooklyn - home of yabyum) sells hi-bias tapes for tracking if you have something like my tascam 4 track, as well as regular blanks for stereo bouncing and making mixtapes for your girl.

re, tapeline; Sorry but they totally suck, I brought few of their cassettes and the quality is utter shi*, also know some one who did duplication there for a EP and it sounds fu*kin horrible.
Their branded sealed cassettes i.e. TDK and Sony are also over priced considering you can pick the same thing up from ebay a lot cheaper.
The service was great but I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole

vinyljunkie, seeing that you buy from ebay, you reckon thats the most logical place to buy in europe? (apart from the occasional thrift store find)

I only get them from ebay cos I can't find them any where else, sometimes you do find the occasional good one at a thrift, a lot of people in the US seem to find quality tapes which would sell for a lot of money in thrift stores whilst in the UK I haven't personally seen many.
There is a record shop here that sells TDK D-90's (Ferric) for 1 quid a tape, way too much.
You can pick up 10x SA-90's for 11quid inc postage from ebay in the UK or 10 D-90's for about 6 quid

Older tapes go for more money especially metal tapes, I have seen people pay up to 400 quid for those Maxell Metal Vertex tapes!! I find the TDK SA's best value for money imo

Yes and no, metal definitely and more expensive but you should be able to find SA-90's quite easily for a good price which is a decent quality chrome tape
