Chopping Drum breaks

If have a drum break chopped up and I wanna edit the tempo of it to fit a certain beat that might be faster/ slower, how would I do that? Do i gotta manually edit the tempo of each chop to fit the beat?

once a drum break is chopped up into drum hits, there is no such thing as "tempo"... the tempo would be the speed in which you trigger those chops... i'm guessing you want to change the PITCH of each sample... the pitch can be adjusted either one sample at a time in the PROGRAM screen [MODE+PAD 7] or you can change the pitch of multiple samples at a time by going into MODE+PAD 11, moving the cursor over the pitch section, push the button that says WHOLE to select the pitch for all samples in that program, and change the pitch to whatever setting you'd like. but as far as the speed in which your drum hits are playing... it's up to you to trigger them properly into the sequence and them adjust the BPM of that sequence to the speed you want the beat to be playing at. if this doesn't make sense, then keep playing with your MPC until it does.

Lemme re-phrase my question......

Lets say i chopped a drum break into 8 samples...and the break was originally at 98 bpm...and i wanna use the break in a beat thats 92 bpm and the break is too fast. How do i slow down the chops so they fit the beat?

I don't know what other methods people use..but I repitch the drum break to the required bpm before chopping...there is probably other methods..I just have found this to be the simplest for me.
The reason your not getting your tempo to match is because the other sounds that are grouped in each chop are still at the original tempo..no matter what timing you play the chops it will play that group at its original speed..
You could also chop into 16 instead of 8..that will work better then 8 for control..but that also is dependant on the length of the break you plan to chop...that's why I just change the bpm of the drum break and then chop..faster and easier for me.

if you chop it into pieces, then you can replay it at whatever speed you want.
you set your tempo first, then you play each piece and it will play at that speed. if you want it to sound less choppy and more fluid, you gotta get good at chopping, or just take you whole break and PITCH it down like crossings was saying.

you can also timestretch it to fit 92 bpm perfectly, but be aware if you timestretch something, you can usually only get 5 to 10 bpm before it starts sounding kinda weird.

if your chopping an actual sample (not a break) you can use loop mode to loop over until the next sample hits, then you can adjust your tempo freely from there and the slower your tempo, the more your loop will loop over until your next sample hits.

same here. i detect the original tempo of the break, timestretch it to the tempo i want, THEN chop it.

in some limited situations you can also use "patched phrase" for breaks. its pretty destructive though. I usually only do that when i'm experimenting with different types of filtered/layered breaks that are kind of down in the mix

I also forgot to note...I do not repitch in mpc...as after a certain bpm...it destroys the sound..I repitch on turntable(if that's my source) or an editing program..I don't really do ant pitching on the mpc..to me it sucks and sounds like shit..

use the sequencer people, that is what is for. Just place the chopped sample in sequence and then you can play it at any tempo. Pitch might help a little bit, but really its about using the sequencer.

Before you chop it.......

Get the drum break to loop at say 98 bpm.
Timestretch it back to 92, or pitch it down so it loops at 92.

Record it again with mainouts.

Chop newly recorded break.

OR

Chop it, then just repitch in prog till its right. Sometimes they may come out too low so the above method is better.

just a note that if the breaks too fast, you may have chosen the wrong break..........in saying that some nice results have come from abusing breaks.
