Weirdest thing. Lately the Left XLR output is -4 dbs quiter than the Right output on the MP 4K. I tried different cables, same thing. (Haven't tried 1/4" outs, but prefer the XLRs for several reasons) Volume is totally level if I take a 1/4" cable that breaks out left and right from the headphone jack. Has anyone encountered this problem? Is it a cap on the output board or something? Thanks.

Well the headphone jack is technically independent from the MPC's outputs so that would NOT be the best test to use.

First check your cables...I know, I know, just check them for shortages.

Next, turn off the MPC and turn it back on. Now check the mixer for any weird settings that may have loaded up in the initial MULTI that loads.

You may need try the 1/4in outputs to test if you are getting an equal level there too.

Turn the VOLUME pot up/down, the pot may have a short.

These are just a few things to try, hope they help and you don't have bad XLR outs...

Thanks Mike. I've been looking at the service manual and you're right about the headphone jack, I figured I could test for weird mixer settings by judging the levels being sent from there to the meter on a Logic channel strip. It looks like the 1/4" outs are on the same circuit as the XLR outs after IC62B/A, etc. (I could be wrong) I used 2 different sets of xlr cables. I don't use the mixer, but I checked the panning of my samples in the zones window. I fiddled with the volume pot. I init all params just for giggles, but I have not power cycled the machine because I was working on something.

[Edit] turned the machine off/on, no change. tried the using the 1/4" outputs, they have the same issue: Left channel is -4dbs quieter than the right. I was told it is a $300 fix to ADDA board, so I think I will try to source replacement parts for the left channel, IC, resistors, etc. and see if I can fix it that way. Will probably end up with the 8 analog outs expansion which would be cheaper than getting the board fixed.
