what do you mean by this:

dj hellfire wrote:I was speaking more for 1000/2500/5000 though since computers don't read older MPC formats.

like... it doesn't know how to play snd files.. or what? or you mean it requires a 3rd party app to make use of mpc files?

because it can store the data for transferring purposes just with windows on it's own.

If I put my 2000XL CF (or zip) in the computer, the computer cannot read the information! You have to use MPC Editor to turn the information into a packed "MPC File", or .MPC, which allows you to back it up and/or share it. The file itself is useless. The only way it can be used is by using MPC Editor to unpack the file onto a zip disk or CF card to be read by an XL. With a 1000/2500/5000, you can simply browse the information from your computer like the MPC is a flash drive.

I hear what you guys are saying. I won't knock what you are doing or what you plan to do. I am just acknowledging the limitations you have when exporting MPC Ren projects into a legacy format.

I personally won' be doing any of that. But it's the only logical reason I could think of for people wanting forward compatidibility!

Format the 2kxl cf card in windows fat/fat16. Stick with filenames no longer than 8 characters. MPC and Windows will read that cf from now on. If you format the CF in the MPC Windows won't read it.

I've been been doing that for years. I've used 1 CF card for years with triton extreme and 2kxl files on it after the CF was formatted in Windows XP w/ fat 16. It has no problem being read in all three machines.

Nice! Never knew that! :D I knew about the 8 characters thing since I used to make sound cd-roms for her! Gonna give this a try tomorrow!

Hey Andy or Dan
Will the parts per quarter note (ppqn) be adjustable? This is a very nice feature to ad becuz the old sequencers on the 3000 was 196 i think, that would play a major key of getting that vintage sound and groove on the old mpcs, since the the newer models run on 960, that groove wont flow the same. I know the beat thang has this feat , im not a fan of the product but this one feature is the only thing goin for it and i would love the mpc to implement it.

Hey Andy,

Question about the live sequence mode. Can you trigger sequences that have different bar lengths simultaneously (e.g. 2 bar loop and an 8 bar loop)?

Sorry if this was asked already.

Actually all MPCs (with the exception of the MPC 4000 and 5000) are 96 ppqns. The MPC 4000 gives you options to do both. Keep in mind that the maximum resolution only applies to turning quantize/time correct OFF. Setting T/C to 1/16 on any MPC will have the same results.
