Is there a way to change the default names of CC's in 2XL?
By dtaa pla muk Thu Mar 08, 2012 3:54 am
nah it uses the naming convention of general midi...
in order to bypass this i have written macros to flicker jjos2xl to the appropriate CC.

in other words, i hit a key and jump into cc edit for 7, 74, 1, 12, and 13 - a handful of controls that i use very frequently.

scrolling to cc74 was a pain. those kinds of workflow slowdowns really do subtly prevent you from being adventurous with ccs, so i had to come up with a solution.

As Nym has stated MIDI CCs are not namable. Not all MIDI CCs are the same. For instance I have two seperate synths and each synth takes a different MIDI CC for the same filter parameter. I have requested that the DELETE WINDOW defaults to MIDI CC you are editing in MIDI GRID EDIT WINDOW. Didnt happen though. Nyms work around seems like a good idea though. So yeah its impracticle to name MIDI CCs as they change from synth to synth

macros? JJOS can deal with macros?

OK even though I know this will lead to another hundred questions I will ltry and explain that you can use the new PAD ASSIGN. So you have ten SETS, and these SETS are the PAD settings if you will.
Every pad can be changed to a different function like MIDI Program Changes, MIDI CC'ss, and Patterns. If you think about it you can do something like Nym above has posted. See his track of MIDI DATA?? If you are clever you can then make this a pattern. It does not have to have any MIDI notes. It can be blank except the one MIDI CC you want, say CC74 for arguments sake. SO now you hit a pad and it will send MIDI data from the pattern. Pretty friggan cool, and you can also do this live or record it.
Anothere function is just MIDI CC with value. I use BANK D, as its hardly used and Sometimes I might use another SET as well.
I use PAD to CC for things like LFO speed in a microkorg for instance. In my example pads 1-4 in BANK D in set 1 are PAD 1 MIDI CC 1 DATA value 0, PAD 2 MIDI CC 1 value 24, PAD 3 MIDI CC 1 DATA VALUE 64, PAD 4 MIDI CC 1 DATA 108.
This means I can hit pads and change LFO time of Microkorg live, in real time.
This is like a macro. This can be saved. So get into it, and of course hit me up if nothing makes sense

Bliprock I already use the pads lke that to controll cutoff, resonance and other parameters on my Yamaha RM1x, and other devices.

The cool thing is that you can have the mpc send multiple cc's at the same time (with just one pad) if you use patterns.

yeah good one astro. So use track to pattern and name pattern. I did in fact make a request to make set names so you could say use a different set for different things and not get lost or have to write it down. It can be a bit of a pain to map them but thats what ya do. No automapping here, but with a bit of fore thought you can set it up for your self so that you know what is what. 128 MIDI ccs multiplied by a few synths can be a pain. But i try to map different MIDI CCs to the same pad in different sets. So even though its kinda the same pad a different set will do different synth and different MIDI CC for say same thing on all gear. That keeps it neat and helps you remember where stuff is.

and as always, i have the macros/standard layout to share if anyone wants them.
it's just up to you to build your own delivery system.
i'm still/always looking for a developer who wants to make a little $$ in this, too.
perhaps i'll pitch the idea to jj.

Now that is a FTW idea. You should pitch this fast.Great work, and your MPC looks like it went through a war zone.Peace TYPO
