Can I fit any CD drive into the MPC 2500 or do I have to use

Hi can I fit an OEM drive into an MPC 2500?

The CD-M25 are not cheap!!

I,ve seen some on Ebay going for half the price of a MPC!!

What you may be looking for is the 'Teac DW-224E-C/DW-224E(bp3)' laptop drive. You can find them around most places [ebay] anywhere from $10-30. However, search the forums as there is a pin on the back that you may have to bend/remove in order to set the drive into slave mode. Supposedly the slot load ones of a similar work well too.

Theoretically I believe almost any basic drive should work; however, there is the matter of aesthetics and getting it to set flush in your unit and not having a big drive hanging out there.

Same thing goes for ram: you can use any PC 133 144PIN CL3 SODIMM 256MB module to enable a maximum memory of 128MB.

People are throwing those drives away!!

You can pick them up for around £4 - £20.

Thats like £200 less than what some people want for the Akai ones!!!

The jumpers on the back of the device should be standard. So it should be easy to set in slave mode. Saying that I,ve not seen one but I could always ask the seller to show me a pick of the back of the drive.

Fit wise it should go straight in. All laptop drives are of a standard size, it's only the fitment casing that screws onto the drive that makes the difference. And that can be jigged about with. Or I could even try and find a broken Akai drive to get the fitment case.

I may pick one up off Ebay then. What have I got to loose at those prices?

All the laptop drives should fit because they are all made to a standard size, but the front bezel of the drive can vary in size. Depending on what model you choose you may have to sand it down or whatnot. Search though forums though (there's a big thread somewhere)...I believe the one I mentioned doesn't require any bezel sanding to get a good look but either way a small cosmetic discrepancy is not really a big deal considering you're already saving 90%. I too am looking to get my hands on a 2500 and this is just what I found in my research.

Google is a better place to ask.. internet is loaded with pages that explains this, I dont understand why people keep asking this simple **** questions over and over again...
