It's lacks anything close to true integration like Maschine.
You could have 100 faders but it still only goes to a superficial level.

What good is being able to route 1000 aux channels if I want to work in standalone mode not as a plug inside a DAW?

What I tend to notice is how many Maschine users don't fully understand the abilities of Maschine so they don't make good use of how it works.
This is the biggest reason many grab the mouse so often.

Geist just doesn't feel like any MPC, it feels like software and a mouse or software and a MIDI controller.

Part of the beauty and workflow feel of the MPC family is the disconnected feel it allows for.
It gives you that focused feel by allowing to work so well from a centralized point with minimal deviation.

You just can't get that with Geist and the MPD.

The MPD32, because it's pretty generous with sliders and knobs, fully mapped to Geist, is surprisingly mouse-free. It's not like just having a few cheap MPC-like pads on the side. I've noticed how a lot of Maschine users actually don't use it completely 'mouse free' anyway but move back and forth between the controller and the computer screen. There's also an official Geist mapping for the Maschine, even though Geist and the Maschine s/w cover the same bases - so there are at least some Maschine users that prefer to use Geist.

As I said, Maschine just looked 'too much stuff' for what I really wanted - which is everything I could do on an MPC in quick to use streamlined software. Plus I was already a happy Guru user and don't really like having to learn new tools just to do what I could do before anyway. Some people are happy just to chop and sample in the Logic arrange window and use ESX24 - nothing wrong with that but for me that's just too fiddly and nothing like the fun of working MPC-style. Geist is pretty MPC-like.

Even really cool Maschine features like plugin integration aren't that much of an advantage of Geist considering you can set up as many auxiliary busses as to you like Logic and send whatever you want from your Geist project through them.

I'm sure the Ren will be cool if the s/w has a good feel about it and isn't buggy. But it's pricey - so it has to put a lot of distance between itself and the already good alternatives that don't cost that much.

I just got mine through 3 days ago. I love it already. In my year of owning an MPC 500 I completed just 2 beats! Because I'm a lazy bastard i was always put off by finishing tracks in the box because everything took soooooo long. I've got 8 projects on the go already with this thing and finishing them should be easy as this workflow seems so well tuned to my workflow. I'm about 50-60% through learning the software and hardware and am going to be placing my MPC500 on ebay this week sometime (anyone in the market atm?).

Some advanced tutorials would be awesome. Like someone said earlier, NI have already
Got their own tutotials to get users up amd running. In fact I was reading a recent thread on here titled Maschine review 2:0 or something and the knowledge dropped by Hellfire and some dude from Italy was really, really informative.

Will defo be looking for the studio when it drops so, As already said, some tutorials out on that relatively soon after release would sell like hot cakes!
