Forum to discuss all matters relating to the MPC1000 and MPC2500 operating systems created by 'JJ' (all versions).

Even with the features of the 2500 the difference between Akai OS and JJ OS2xl is unbelievable.
It more like going from DOS 6.2 to Win7.

The only reason to take the time to learn the Akai OS would be if you plan to stay there or if it will take you 6-8 months to come up with $123.

Just not worth having to learn the box all over again.

No disrespect to Tutor but if I had to make the choice between a $40 eBook for the 2500 or $59 for JJ OS1 for the 2500, OS1 would be a no-brainer.

Earhacker wrote:I got a 2500 and the book and worked through it before installing JJOS free. That was only a month ago and I feel like I've got some pretty decent MPC chops going. Not quite black belt yet but pretty far from n00b status.

There's only a couple of features of JJOS free that are drastically different from AkaiOS, most of it is workflow improvements, things like a bigger Trim window (where you do all the sample editing) or a global Program edit window, rather than editing each pad's parameters individually, or faster processing for common things like chopping a sample into 16 even slices. All the stuff that Akai dropped the ball on. In any case, sticking with Akai for now will let you follow the ebook and the manual to the letter, and the upgrade to JJOS will still make sense.

It's not like switching from Windows to a Mac, it's like switching from Windows 95 to Windows 7. Everything's the same, only better.

The paid JJOS versions I guess will just build on that further. So keep your money, eat well, learn your MPC, save up for graduation.

nah we just gotta make a JJOSXL tutor book for Tutor, thats all. Damn I could do it in CS I am sure in no time, but its the content. Cant just use MPC1000 book and replace a few words. I dont know what is in them, I never bought one, much to my shame - Sorry Tutor, but they look slick and work a treat to, so I think it might sell a few. Just JJOS's changes a fair bit, making it redundant, BUT, that can be solved with a secured webpage that allows PDFs to be downloaded of new stuff in JJOS's..... But thats more work thats doesnt stop. Unlike the other MPCs operating systems.
The people on this very forum convinced me to go JJ and have not looked back. I have extensive sampler use before so am not a noob, so even though I never had a MPC, (more shame) I could jump right in and get to grips with it. If you are not familiar with samplers maybe start with Akai OS, then this will make you familiar with sampling and sequencing and you have benefit of MPC Tutor book to, then get JJOS and you wont look back at all

Well it took a pretty long time for him to add support for JJ Free so I doubt if that's something he's trying to do.
Makes sense because JJ is not complacent so the OS could be pretty different by the time Tutor finished a eBook for XL.
It could easily be obsolete before he finished it.

I forgot you said 2500, the 1k still allows you to purchase OS1, OS2 or XL the 2500 doesn't.

Yet another advantage the 1k has over the 2500.

Still the same price on the 1000.

Nah on the 1k you can buy
OS1-$59
OS2-$59 installs on OS1
OS2xl-$15 if installed on OS2, $74 if installed on OS1, $123 if no paid JJ OS is installed.

The 2500 use to have similar options

Which goes back to why I said I would buy OS1 for $59 before I would pay $40 for an eBook.
Just too bad you have a 2500 and JJ did away with that option.

acronym wrote:Thanks but there's this link where you can download os1 for mpc2500 still?:

http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/mpc2500/old_os.htm

Not sure since the english isn't that great on that site.

Unfortunately that's a link that allows a place for owners to re-up if needed, you can't purchase it anymore.
It's just for download he stop selling the passwords for the older version of the 2500.

If you look at

http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/

You see how the 1k still allows you to purchase the various versions of JJ OS.

At any rate just go ahead and try the free JJ on your 2500 and roll with that until you can go to XL then really start to enjoy your 2500.

Just installed JJOS XL, I don't think I be saving for a while since I'm going to spend the month learning it but pretty cool already and much easier in terms of functions when doing basic things in Akai OS 2.14.
