Problem here is that synthprof has no experience with machies like this, I'm also not confident that it's a cpu problem, they say it like it's a shot in the dark.
Really what you need is a tech with experience fixing/replacing smd parts on laptops mobos and smart phones etc... But if they can farm it out to someone who can fix it, then it's cool.

You may be right, but their follow up email to the one I posted suggests their initial diagnosis was from a very quick look at it and they were going to investigate further. I also wouldn't expect the average repair guy to be able to fix a PCB at the component level to be honest, so I've just got to roll with it for now.

Unfortunately the UK isn't exactly ripe with good repair techs for these types of machines. I'm sure Labcoats will also confirm that there's a number of 4k's in the wild here that have some kind of defect with the mother board. I think that explains why there are spares for every other part of the machine except this part. It's not looking good at this stage.

at the price you payed, it was worth the risk. I mean, if later down the road you get an american 4000 or something you know works 100%, at least you got that replacement screen and what not already.

I wish I had the room to just have it lying around in the hope of eventually finding a replacement card, but unfortunately I don't.

If it comes back in the state I sent it off in, I'll just have to reluctantly let it go for spares.

THats a shame.
Sunth Ptog is a hood guy, he wont pay the shyster game with you.

I worry every time I switch my gk on and off because with it being a UK midle you can bet it has that rush job substance/components in it. Its obvious reading the forum. Pretty much all US models are easily fixed, but when it comes to European models its a total clusterF***k

If this one I currently have did go down I dont think I would bother after that. I would probably just get the Ren, and maybe pick up a 60 or 3000. It ironic that you can get an MPC60 fixed easier than an MPC4k

Im considering trying to contact someone @Akai in Japan (anyone got any ideas?). Aksing Nukau would be pointless. At least Japan would know the details of what went down and with that information we may have a better idea for future fixes. One thing for sure is these machines are not going to last like the MPC60 which is a shame as their well built but they seem to have a small flaw.

And if any US owner pops in here and says I just swiped over it with a a feathery duster and smarmily said it worked I will drag you feet first from your location to the rings of Saturn and back again. You can use your perfect 4k for oxygen on the trip :mrgreen:

They're stacked out with other repairs and haven't had chance to check it over. It's no bad thing at the minute though because I'm in the process of sinking my Tempest/4k repair fund into a new car! The deal I'm getting is too good to pass up on, so other stuff will have to wait for now.
