MPC1000 main output super low volume

I have a 1000 and I've searched and searched for answers as to my problem with no luck.

Basically the machine is loud and clear through the headphones except for once the main volume is turned up past about 2 o'clock it gets quieter and seems to have a reverb type effect on it.

The main problem is that the main output volume is way quiet. I have to turn the gain on my mixer all the way up to the point of distortion even to hear the MPC just a little.
I've read the manual. I've turned the master level to 0db. I've normalized my samples and checked that they're turned up(velocity, level etc...) Even the factory preset songs are super quiet. I've exhausted all my resources trying to figure this out aside from contacting Akai. I'm sorry if this has been discussed before. I've been trying to solve this for about 3 weeks now.

try different cables for a start. try with out desk, so MPC straight to monitors if you can, to make sure its not desk. You seemed to have checked most of the things in the MPC, maybe except compressor is set up to compress really hard. turn that of in the master FX.
