MOTU kills the M-box.

Pro tools is in the business of selling HD units, the little ones are to get you hooked and are internally crippled so you think you need to spend major bucks to get Pro performance. Got that from a digi employee and have seen it in the 002 specifically.

It also uses the same converters as that behringer $200 ada joint.

Get the Motu and logic, it kills it.

yeah, Digidesign LE convertors are crappy! They are 'bathroom convertors'

If you have or can get your hands on to some software i would get the motu. The digi 002 isnt a bad package for someone looking to purchase hardware and softe. I use the motu 828 mk2 and nuendo together and love it every day. I just like the freedome to be able to work on tracks with out the hard being around plus i like the fact that if i ever want to up grade my software or hardware im not stuck to using the same product like one would with having all there tracks recorded in pro tools and now wants to use cubase. Digi isnt a software company but a hardware company. Alot of people who use there products dont always use there software, most do but alot dont. So if you get the digi 002 then get it cause you are happy with the hardware cause even if the software was ok you can always switch by using asio driver.

what about the digi design 002 control surface is that alright if not what would you reccomend so you can use a control surface?

check out the behringer 8 fader controll surface. I know that company has a bad rep but chit for 225 for 8 motorize faders controller i would have to give it a shot for the 45 day trial.

If you got the money Ill recommend the following ( assuming u have a fast pc/laptop with pci slots and/or cardbus and Firewire 800 ) :

-> RME Multiface + pci or cardbus card ( soundcard )
or
-> RME Fireface 800 ( soundcard )
-> Tascam US2400 ( DAW controller )
-> Logic or Nuendo, Cubase, Sonar, etc... ( software )


Now you have spended approximately the same amount of money as if you would buy the DIGI002. ( 002 is more expensive )
And!! You have plenty more inputs!
And you got 24 + 1 faders for remote controlling your DAW's mixer + jogwhell etc etc... . ( the Tascam US2400 does this )
Plus you got a more powerfull software package than Pro Tools LE and TDM!! Plus the latency is much better on the RME than on the 002, 001 and mBox all together. Plus RME's convertors are much, much better than Digidesign!

Nuendo sounds intense but would cost £800, about by budget!
The reason I considered digi stuff is because you get the software free, good point about being able to use different software with the same hardware piece,

do you know what features you lose with logic express over the logic pro?

Cubase and nuendo are pretty much the same thing and both have the same sound engine. The real difference is that nuendo can handle video. If you have no need for that difference youll get the same features pretty much by getting cubase.
