Peace, I'm a newborn on this forum. I wanted to know if there was a way to set different bars for each track in a sequence. For instance,
Sequence 1
Track 1-Bass (4 bars)
Track 2-Piano (8 bars)
Track 3-Horn (2 bars)
Can you do this on the XL? If so, please help! I have used other sequencers that let you do this, but i cant seem to figure how it could be done on an XL. Anyone?

Can't do it

Set them all to eight and just loop track 1 and 3 as needed.

Wow, of all the things the MPCXL can do, and it can do that?! Such a simple function I would have thought that it would have been possible. Anywayz, thanks! PEACE.

Welcome to the world opf the MPC....It can do what u want it to, just equal to the largest bar(If you want it to loop)...You could always set the seq to 16 bars or something trivial and get the same affect.

How would u expect a sequence set to 4bars to play a track 8bars long

Just looking at the interface of the machine woulda told you that.

peace,
Because i had an old sequencer that had the capability to set each track in a sequence to as many bars as you liked. again my example:
SEQUENCE 1
track-1 (drums) 4 bars
track-2 (bass) 8 bars
track-3 (piano) 16 bars
Get it? I would have thought that the MPC XL would let you do that being that its a Production Unit.
There are times when i set the bars in a sequence to 4, but then decide after recording i want to set the bars for 8. When i set bars to 8 and hit do it, i will have a bars. 4 bars of sound, 4 bars of space? Why does this happen? I end up recording all over again setting it to the bars i decided on. It takes up time and kills my creativity!! What am i doing or not doing?

What you can do is (from main screen) press edit. Then "bars". You can copy the whole 4 bar sequence and repeat it. Easy.

At the main screen

Press Edit (F2)

Then Bars (F2)

You should be able to do it from there.
