Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

For the same sample type, e.g. 16 bit and 44,1 kHz, the MPC 2500 loads much faster than the MPC 4000.

In terms of switching screens, the MPC 2500 also feels a little more real time.

However, once you are playing the samples, I prefer the depth of sound on the MPC 4000 over the MPC 2500's sound alot.

Some people have always complained about the speed of the 4k and even said it gets slower as you do more with it.
Never really saw that on the Blue Plus but some people have said the Blues were full of issues which I also never saw.

My point would be there seems to be a certain level of inconsistency if the reported 4k performance.

You really shouldn't have any real problems with the response of the 4k or its load times compared to that of the 2500.

The trick to the 4k is the mass difference in memory size compared to other units. The 2500 (I think) maxes out at 256MB of memory, making it easier to manage that smaller amount of memory. The 4k has 512 of memory and has an odd method of writing to said memory which causes it to slow down after working heavily of a project. In the GLOBAL options on the 4k there is a command to DEFRAGMENT the memory which reorganizes the items in the memory for smoother operation, similar to a HDD on your PC, but on a smaller scale.

Loading times on the other hand are just about the same maybe due to the processors in the units. I think the 2500 may be slightly faster in that respect...
But operations like TIMESTRECH are suuuuuppppper sllllllllllooooooowww on all hardware MPCs.

128MB on a 1000 or 2500. The 256MB may be on the stock Akai RAM sticks, but only 128MB is read by the machine. I know we all get 256MB third party RAM for that reason.

I'd say my 4000 is slower doing things than my 2500, but my XL takes a long time to load stuff.
