whenever my recordings sounds like ass, i just remove the mic and try another and hopefully more suited soundsource.. usually to the relief of the previous! 8)

In a nutshell:

1. Have ears, and learn how to use them
2. Have monitors and possibly a sub, and learn how to use them
3. Treat your room acoustically
4. Learn how to reference material on your home setup

5. From here on it's really an interesting read to do with gain-staging, digital clipping and average playback volumes. Definitely read this bit.

6. Don't mix too loud

Ok, so I just realised it's 55 pages long haha. I will not provide any more highlights but it's a really detailed post and it's well written, so thanks to n4l for posting this bad boy.

Perhaps we could start out own thread similar to that and sticky it?

hah why bother? at mpc forums that thread will look a lot like

"there are no rools yo just do you"

or my personal favorite misquote in these forums:

"i'm a no holes barred kind of guy, so..."

........???? that is NOT the expression.

Why bother? Because I'm too lazy to read 55 pages of stuff, and I thought it would be a useful addition to the forum Buzz Killington.
