recording to 8track and back

recording to 8track and back

if you record..say drums..to a multitrack with a reverb applied, and then record back into the drum machine, will any quality be lost or quality of the effect be lost?

What 8-track model do you have ?

I was planning to send the 8 mixouts of my 2500 to my Tascam 688, record the 8 tracks on tape cassette and then multitrack every individual track to cubase for final mixdown.

Still waiting for my tape cassettes to arrive (ordered them). Looking forward to test the sound quality of that setup...

Anyone ever played with a 688 ?

maybe some, although it might not sound so bad really. its not gonna turn it to mp3 quality or anything like that.

As long as it goes through ad/da converters there will be loss.

I guess there is no escape (except if i want to make real beat tapes, on cassettes)

Which 8 ins/ USB multitrack device would you recommend to minimize the ad/da converters loss ?

Is the loss that bad ? i guess not. Man, looking forward to test it

The loss is nowhere near as bad as you think.

It's just when people hear "loss of quality" u immediately think BAD, and it's not.

If you lose 20 pennies from 44100 pennies is that a loss? Yes.
Is it bad, No.

You and most people won't even know or care that your less rich missing that small of an amount.

If you want no loss, keep it digital every step of the way. The very first time your audio path crosses an ad/da conversion is when pennies start to get stolen.

Audio interface with enough channels to match your hardware, or you can just track 2 at a time into the computer, multiple recording passes on tracks in cubase. Long process but it will get the job done.
