"The Slot" CF reader in a s5k

Hi,

I just recently recieved an akai s5k with a zip-drive... I was curious if anybody knew if the s5k would accept a 'the slot' CF-reader which I have installed in my 2kXL. I know that the zip would work most definitly in the XL, but I wonder if the CF would work in the s5k. I basically am just considering swapping them.

either you get a SCSI to IDE adapter to install an IDE card reader, or you get a SCSI card reader.
On samplers, these can only read CF with a PCMCIA to CF adapter, which looks ugly and is not really ergonomic, immagine yourself a 3 cm deep thing coming out of your card reader... it can disturb operation of the front panel, depending where the floppy drive bay is.
PCD50B is a SCSI card reader which works with most samplers, I got one, hacked a SCSI CD ROM case and put the card reader in it, and I'm using it with my yamaha A5000 sampler as it would be a SCSI external HD, gonna buy another one soon to use with my mpc2000xl like it would be a SCSI external HD (tested and found to be working):

Should you buy this one, get the set with PCMCIA - CF adapter and the CF card so you're ready to go. This could cost you less than only the SCSI-IDE adapter

I'm confused by your suggestion/response...

I either need a SCSI to IDE adapter and a regular IDE card reader,

or... blah I'm confused.

I opted to buy a card reader for my XL that was fitted for the floppy bay, and I have once seen a simalar thing on ebay for s5k/s6k before.

The link you showed me was what looked like a card reader (with card) that fits in place of the floppy, but what else would I need?

I don't know why now the image doesn't show up, i did the same above and worked... anyway, just put the damn thing in a scsi cd rom case.

hmm. yeah I don't think I would want that stuff sticking out of the sampler like that.

What I do have the option is trying out a Iomega external zip drive with the a4k.

I have to also figure out what kind of samples to put in it. I've used it on 3 songs, one with the modified wavforms that come built in, sort of a chiptune classical song. then also for basic chords on the other songs.

I know the a5k is pretty deep. I find it hard to use and have only really worked with basic tones and not any of the break-beat rearranging functions.
