i've personally never really used any vocoder VSTs or nothing... but does anyone know how i can get a voice to sound like this vocoder here?:

unfortunately, these youtube hipsters don't sound quite like the actual vocoder effect i'm looking for... that just sounds like your "average" vocoder effect... but interesting post regardless, lamp...

My vocoder on my triton extreme is more subtle than that. That Nightcall is hypnotizing though. I sat through and listened longer than I intended, I couldn't pull away.

i messed around with the ableton live built-in vocoder effects for a bit, but couldn't find anything close to that "nightcall" effect though... there must be some simple trick i'm overlooking... i'm sure some vocoder savant is looking at this post like i just asked how to make a sandwich though...

...and i gotta admit... if you haven't watched the film "Drive" yet... it's pretty damn good... everything from the casting, directing, and soundtrack... i couldn't stop watching.

I'm guessing a vocoder & heavy distortion layered with a chorused pad of some sort.
I've used my vocoder alot but I've never tried any voice this heavy and thick before.

Not any vocoder knower by far, but wouldn't the result depend heavily on the timbre ov the carrier signal fed into the vocoder?
And I don't know if it might be sidchain compression from the kick causing this, but I feel like there is some swelling or backwards effect giving the voice a somewhat effect off breathing in instead of out while singing. If thats the case a triggered envelope generator or reverse reverb effect on the modulator might help.

yeah, try to hear the sounds used for the carrier, their chords etc
it also sounds heavily compressed
(don't assume its one instance of vocoded synth either.. idk)

The KP3 has that exact sound along with so many more.
The only drawback to the KP's is that you can't use a keyboard to trigger but once you get use to how much you can do from the touchpad you don't care.
He could have done a lot more with the sound if he chose to but he kept it simple.

Sounds like .....kind of two carrier signals to me. One sings the melody chords (something like a sawtooth-waveform) and the other is noise that sounds more like a whispering but a loud/compressed whispering. It probably gets its own keys.
