woop impulse buy (nov. launchpad)

i don't use ableton. the three times i tried to learn it i gave up pretty quickly.
for all my braggadocio i am very limited to the couple tools i use.
in my ongoing and renewed efforts to put my live show together, i bought a launchpad on ebay (i learned never buy new gear when i bought my mpc1000 in 2004)
my boy emancipator had a boutique similar instrument from which he was controlling ableton and it looked pretty easy, so i'm gonna give it a go

if anyone is in the area or has time to shoot the sh!t on the telephone about ableton, i'd love to get a quick rundown on the jargon. clips, scenes, etc.

lovin, too, that the launchpad is paid for with fresh french $$. i may weasel my way into playing in france sooner than later...

Nym I could never get the vibe of LIVE until I got a APC40.
Prior to that it ran me in circles trying to find a functional way to use it.

Since you have the LaunchPad maybe you should dig into the Novation and then give LIVE another shot.

also to add to that, it seems like other DAW companies are starting to recognize these controllers designed for ableton and are incorporating them into their own system... who knows, maybe even reaper will do the same some day if they become any more popular than they already are.

Im still looking at that damn axis 64 though... but damn, if that aint expensive for a controller... I dont know what is.

very good to hear, ntalec and debauch. i look forward to giving it another shot. i would really love to do some live looping stuff with ableton/reaper rewired. i hope my laptop is high powered enough.

so far my live rig is going to consist of the a laptop, an m-audio quattro, the mpc, the launchpad, and a secret

I just about finished my book on Ableton Live, it's a great application. Not used a Launchpad, I did everything with the MPC, assigning clips and scenes to pads, assigning Q Links to Live sliders etc.

Except for a couple of quirks, it's probably my favourite music app ATM. Obviously if you are performing live, it's a no-brainer. But I'd love to get my hands on a Launchpad to see what's possible.

Nym, I've owned Ableton for ages and I've also used it with an APC 40. So if there's anything I can help with then shoot.

Personally I tend not to use the clips and scenes which I guess is the entire point, but if I can help I will.

Same here I'm using the MPC1k as master for midi only. It's like having a mpc with mad sound editing possibilities and proper effects on each channel all at once.

exactly what i've been doing with reaper. jj's midi editor beats any other midi sequencer i've ever seen, DAW or otherwise.

Tutor, that's excellent news. great timing. also good to hear it interfaces so well with the mpc, in case i'm not feeling/don't need the launchpad. check your pms.

I bought the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and got the same version. It's limited to only 8 tracks or something like that. If you want to get into the learning curve, definitely install it and have fun with it. If it's suitable for your workflow, you'll want to take advantage of the upgrade offers from Live Lite to the full version after registering the Lite version.

Can someone tell me why Ableton is so great?, I haven't used a sequencer for ages the last time was Cubase in the early 90s and then Reason because it was so easy.

What am I missing out?/.
