Submit bug reports and feature requests for the JJOS-XL and 2XL

I would like to see recordable track mute groups implemented in a future release of OS2XL. I'd like them to be implemented the same way as described in pages 14-15 of the MPC 2500 Manual Addendum v1.2 for the Akai OS but also with the ability to have the events quantized to the grid (like in the MPC5000).

I think this would be a nice feature to have as it would enhance the live performance/impromptu feel of the MPC sequences. I often find myself hitting 3 to 4 pads at a time if I want to mute for example a kick, hihat and cymbal (I separate each of my drum sounds onto their own separate track for better mixing and more control). Then I press those 3 or 4 pads again simultaneously to unmute them. If I could assign multiple tracks to a pad, that would give me a lot more flexibility for live muting and unmuting of tracks. Not only would it free my hands, but it would also allow me to mute or unmute more tracks simultaneously then what would be possible manually with just a few fingers. Plus, it's possible I might all of a sudden want to mute multiple tracks that are on different pad banks at the same time, which wouldn't be possible manually. Furthermore, the ability to record your live changes (pad mute events using pad mute groups) and perhaps even quantize the mute/unmute events to the time correction grid would allow you to fully capture your performance as part of the sequence. I think this is a great way to add changes to the music and give it a natural feel.

Another side note: Since track mute groups is a feature that is already implemented in the Akai OS for the MPC2500, I don't see why it shouldn't be included in the JJ OS2XL. For me, it would certainly be a welcome addition.

UPDATE:

I submitted this request to JJ a while ago (about 3 years ago) but he was busy at the time. As a result, I just re-submitted this request and received a response. If this functionality can be implemented without encountering any problems in the process, chances are it will be implemented in OS3 as opposed to OS2XL.

I wonder if OS3 will retain most of the features of OS2XL? I really hope so!!!!!

About TRACK-MUTE:

Would like to decide if the sound goes thru or stops immediately when track is muted, PER TRACK.

So I could have PADS 1 to 4 stopping the sounds as soon as muted, while the rest go on until the samples end.

I can see an added value for folks that like to arrange ITB using track_mutes, where you could enhance variations playing with long samples... E.G.: I would set the beat to stop immediately, while leaving luscious pads evolving and decaying more naturally to transition into a break-down.

Check out "Mute type selection": http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/os2xl/trackmute3.htm
Isn't that what you're looking for?

EDIT: ah sorry you were asking per track... that option is global.

And of course having at least the choice for the global setting is very useful... that's how I thought about it.

yeah its a good idea for live playing. So how many mute groups do you need then, say 16 at most? you surely would not need that many Shirley. I guess it will be in track mute view to. Yeah thats useful, more so if they are implemented with the same features and choice that is there now.
I cant wait for this new OS3 thing. its gonna have a few new features that we have not seen before, so the wait is worth it. And i hate waiting. a lot.

It's finally here!!!!!! I just downloaded and installed OS2XL version 3.18 and I now have track mute groups!!!!! In addition to that, they are indeed RECORDABLE and QUANTIZABLE!!!!! I've checked the timing when recording the events. When I mute and unmute a track mute event, it automatically locks to the time correction grid on playback. SPLENDID!!!!!! This is well implemented too--much better implemented then the diagram I drew. Perphaps my detailed diagram gave them some ideas of how to implement better in a way that it would actually improve workflow.

Thanks you very much JJ!!!!!

For my next MPC, it's going to be an extremely difficult choice between the MPC2500 and MPC5000 now!!!! One thing for sure, I'm definitely keeping my 1000.
