Akai, as usual, is desperately trying to attach every new device to its legacy MPC line.

While the MPC pads and Q-Links might be the heart, its brain is transplanted directly from the MPC. That's because the it is not just a control surface; it contains some of the key MPC technologies that have made the MPC the de facto standard it is. MPC Note Repeat is a capability that enables it (or MPC) to automatically play a rhythm pattern, such as 16th notes on a hi-hat, for accuracy and speed of entry. MPC Swing is sometimes referred to as "the heart and soul of hip hop" because it turns perfectly aligned sequences into human-feeling time alignments. You can specify exactly the degree and timing of swing you want to apply for the perfect feel. It also has MPC Full Level and MPC 16-Level on its pads.

u what mate? what u rambling on about.

mpc ren is dope it make perfect sense to take advange of the power of the PC CPU as this is several orders more powerful then even the mpc5000 cpu.

so expect the ren to reign supreme some of u wont understand this until use it plus some of u are holding fast to the past in the wrong way u gotta embrace new ways as long as the classic elements are there.

What about all that software you get with it?

Is Ferrari just a "car"?

after watching the renaissance features demo i couldn't help thinking.... does this do ANYTHING i can't already do with Poise in Ableton Live? the answer is no. at least not yet.

the og poster needs to think about it this way ur favorite mpc is just a controller with a processor not much beyond a calculator processor

Ableton Live is dope but one thing its missing is .. choping smaples .. its sucks @ that ... when u been ,aking beats for over 20 years like me .. i dont wana lern a new way 2 chop .. thats were the mpc ren coms in.. and belive me i was ounce like u lol .. if u donrt belive me look @ all my other post lol ...

poise does have a pretty basic "import and slice" feature which chops a sample into 16 equal parts and automatically lays it out on the pads. but there are much better vst instruments/plugins that can accomplish the same thing with more options for fine-tuning...

The meat and potatoes of the ren is the hardware integration. People expect it to be some magical device, but it's not. It gives you the one thing you don't have in ableton which is the tightly integrated hardware/software.

You're about 3 months late

It is a tool to make music plain and simple no matter what you call it. Make a banging beat and the club with rock. Make a cool remix to play in your dj set whatever floats your boat a year from now the Ren will be a major part of this forum and a major piece of gear used by many producers making their next hits.


A lot of cats will still be using their legacy mpc units for the next twenty years (I'm not selling my 4k) ; however, time will move on regardless of what gear you use. We are all users of technology y'all need to get it together. This is change believe or deny it no more hardware to come.
