Cheap CF Reader for 2000?

i think i need a 44pin-to-40pin converter.

44 pin IDE port is used for laptop, the extra 4 pins are for used as power wires.

I see both 44 pin and 40 pin connector on the CF reader.
Can you just use a 40 pin ribbon cable and a MOLEX connector?

that cf reader is fine, JVC is right about the additional 4 pins.. also, the missing pin in the middle (row 12) it does not matter... your mpc has that pin, but if the ribbon cable you have has that pin whole filled in then just take an exacto box cutter and slice it out so in the mpc the pin has a place to fit when plugging in the connector... it does not need to be connected, but cutting the cable is better than snapping off the pin the mpc.

OS 1.20 is required for that reader I believe... I am 98.3% sure.

Yes, OS 1.20 is definitely required for using non-swappable IDE CF reader. (for SCSI CF readers, you can use old OS, but for non-swappable IDE CF reader, you don't forget to to update the OS before installing it.) I did try older OS and it did not work, so don't bother trying older OS with non-swappable IDE CF reader.

I've wrote this many times, but use only Sandisk CF cards (Sandisk 2GB CF works fine, but maximum partition size is 1GB.)
Most of cheap CF cards don't work with XL (that includes Kingston brand cards), so just get Sandisk 2GB CF card, which seems to be cheapest and safest option.

lol, I had one kingston 1gb card that used to work in the XL, but it would absolutely not work on the computer hahaha.. backwards shit but still... get the sandisk ones

my mpc ribbon has some knotches on the top and sides of it.
it wont fit in
so i prob have to buy a different ribbon right?

lets see a picture of it... what do you mean by "some notches" .. do you mean several notches? or do you mean one notch in the middle? or do you mean two, one small notches at each end?

One on the top and two on the sides . It was connected to the internal reader. The small 2 mb disk or was it 1 mb ... Im at work but when i get home ill take a picture

cut those two ridges with an exacto blade.
