Akai MFC42 hum problems

I hook up my turntable with my MFC42 and I get a low hum noise on the mfc42 output.
I cant sample anything like that.

Anybody knows how to fix this?

PS: And yes everything is grounded to the same outlet. Ive used it in another studio and I get the same hum on the output.

Please help!

check the wiring in the cartridge, if all of your grounds are in place then it may be coming from the TT. I had a similar problem with my MFC, turns out it was the TT so i was relieved.

Its not the cartridge. Even when the TT is not connected to the MFC i can hear a hum noise floor.

sorry to kick up old mummy dust (old thread) but i have the same issue . no matter what cables i use no matter what input im goin in or what out put im usin theres a noisy hum in my mfc42... makes it pretty much unusable unless i eq it out with somthin but still after all that y even use it ..... any suggestions on how to make this thing quite

i kno its not a ground issue (externally) , its definitely not a cable / power issue so im pretty sure it has to be something internally.... im not afraid to open it up and operate i just need some suggestions what to look for / replace b4 i do

not an old issue, bro. my mfc42 is still sitting on top of my asr10 collecting dust.

Im doing professonal work and I cannot use it with that hum...

I have the mfc42 sitting for 2 years now and nto using it and I gave up some stuff to buy it...

not cheap at all..

Had the same type of problem with one of my Electrix units, think it might have been the EQ Killer.
Couldn't find a service manual so I just pulled it down touched up all the points on the board and the TT ground point.
It's been quiet ever since, maybe something like that would sort your problem out.

None of the solder joints really looked bad but touching them up did seem to make a difference so it's definitely worth a shot.

i will open up mine tomorrow and ill also take pics of it for others to see.

I always take pics of my gear inside when i take them apart.
helps me remember stuff when i want to take them apart again.

had the same problem with my MFC 42, an annoying humming noise
coming from the left output, which made it impossible to work with the unit.
I sent my MFC 42 to a german repair workshop, who do repairs for akai, access etc. here in germany. I got in contact with them, and they said it´s a known problem of the MFC 42. They made some kind of a mod to my unit and sent it back to me, and now the noise occurs very, very rarely and if so, much more quietly than before so I can finally use the MFC again! If you´re not in germany I suggest to get in contact with them via e-mail, as they are very nice guys, maybe they can tell you how to do this mod on the MFC 42...

another reason why the electrix filter factory beats the mfc42 imo... not to mention it's available for a third of the cost on the used market.

Filter Factory costs less because there's less to it i.e. no envelope generator.

'Course that doesn't amount to much if the thing only works as a hum generator.

BTW as long as you are confident with a soldering iron, re-heating solder connections is a good idea. Cold solder joints are more common than people think and it's amazing how really obnoxious problems like that can be fixed with some proper touch-up.

This thread has got me worrying about mine...
