mpc and cassette recorder

If i apply an effect and record to tape and then back to the mpc, more than once...will the loop that i keep resampling get way too grainy from being recorded onto tape more than once?

like, will the loop/sound become "muddied" by the cassette, if i keep re-applying new effects and recording onto tape and back?

In general: yes the sound will sound worser each time you rerecord it BUT it depends on the tapeformat/tapequality/the quality of the machine you'll use.

If you have it all there, why don't you just try it and tell us how it worked out?

When I recorded beats to tape, one thing I noticed was that effects , specially compressors, cam out a lot stronger, than recorded to any other media.

When I've used cassettes in the past I found that I lost a little bit off the bottom end which you can carefully put back with a bit of EQ if you choose, but I also got a really nicely rounded off top end, which to my ears sounded very pleasant.

Not to everyones taste, because in essence one man's "gluing sounds together" is another man's "loss of clarity".

As others have said, have an experiment and see how far you can push your tape before it really starts to sound too much for you and then ease off a little bit.
