Whats goin on out there? Im new to the forum and im undecided on which mpc to get. I sold my 1000 to upgrade to a bigger model. I am undecided between the 2500 & 4000!!! I want to be able to use my yamaha portable grand keyboard with it & use it sounds as well. the mpc 1000 lacked that. to my understanding both the 2500 and 4000 both has those capabilities. seeing as im giving yall an outlook on what im trying do with the mpc, which would u recommend for me?

those MPCs can't do anything with a keyboard that the MPC1000 can't. i'm a bit confused as to what you think it lacked.

My keyboard is midi but doesnt have midi inputs or outputs (xlr) it has a usb midi and a 1/4" output jack. to my understanding it can only record midi data but when u bounce it to the computer if the computer doesnt have that data it's nothing there. from research ive done im unable to do direct recording off my keyboard with no issues and able to bounce everything as a whole or burn directly to disc... help me to understand if u can bro...

i'd help if i could only understand what you're talking about... but it seems like you yourself don't even know what's going on, or what midi is, etc.

i'd start by reading your keyboards manual for now.

i think you replaced the wrong piece of kit to be honest. I try to stay away from any gear that only has Midi via usb.

all you're going to be able to do with that keyboard and ANY mpc model is record audio from the keyboard's audio output into the MPC's audio inputs. USB midi can not be used on any MPC directly from the keyboard... those are designed to be software controllers for computers... hence why they're USB midi.

agreed... you should have kept the MPC1000 and replaced the keyboard for one with midi in and out.

ok even with all of that being said, isnt the 2500 & 4000 both better than the 1000??? I also clearly said that i wasnt completely sure if i understand midi and how it may work. to my knowledge, im not able to transfer the midi data from a keyboard (if played in a sequence on the mpc) to a computer if the computer doesnt have the midi data itself, am i right??? i figured if i could go right to disc it would bypass this issue. i clearly was wrongly informed. from what so called "specialist" have told me was that u cant use a keyboard along with the mpc 1000, clearly from what u guys are saying this isnt true. basically what i want to do is play the keyboard along with the mpc together. ie: make a drum pattern with the mpc and add a melody from my keyboard... help anyone with this!!!

i repeat... you need to get a different keyboard in order to do that... one that has both a midi in and a midi out port. you can't do this with your current keyboard, no matter which mpc you have. if this is all you want to, the mpc1000 will work out just fine. the keyboard is the weak element here.

Ok now that that's clear... Back to the main question.... The 1000 is gone! Which would u guys prefer the 4000 or 2500?
By pcity_substance Fri Apr 06, 2012 3:42 am
My original plan was to get a new keyboard so I don't want u guys to think I'm a total idiot but again i was mis informed. I'm new to the production side of music

does it really matter what WE would want? without wanting to sound like a smartass here, that's a decision only YOU can make... they can both accomplish recording a keyboard via MIDI and audio. so it makes no difference really. the 2500 is a lot more similar to the 1000 out of those 2 though... but it doesn't seem like you ever really learned the 1000 either way.

Just asking an opinion of those who know more than me... I haven't claimed to have mastered anything! Only asking to further educate myself. I'm asking questions! That's the whole reason I got on this forum to gain knowledge. I didn't ask what YOU wanted I asked which one meaning are there certain things that may make one better than the other or what may better suit what I'm trying to accomplish based on the info Ive given. This hasn't been a very welcoming thread I must say.... Smh...
