MIDI sync issue - Pro Tools

still un-resolved. I actually got that "Working with Pro Tools" MPC tutorial and it basically showed me what I've already done. Although it does talk about my specific issue:

"To compensate for this delay, you can either manually shift your entire waveform back using the methods described for the ‘manual’ recording method. However, you can also set a global offset for any track recorded via MIDI Beat Clock with this current MIDI connection.

In the ‘offset’ box, you can set a negative offset value to account for any delays experienced with your MIDI Clock sync."

So anyway, I did all that but it still isn't playing ball. What the fok am I doing wrong?

By the way, do I even need MIDI out from the MPC in this situation (tracking into Pro Tools). Also this may be completely obvious but do I need to change each track type to MIDI as well as assign a MIDI channel (1-16)?

if its off by a couple mill a sec just cut the beginig of each track and slidit over so they line up ... i do this with all my beats and after words there perfectly on

True but the Akai/Protools Sync issue is FAR from love!!!

Numerous friends and myself have had some serious issues with PT and our MPCs. Even after adding the 4 empty bars, etc., the sequences would be off by just a hair. I would always have to go back and nudge everything back by 1/64 in grid mode.

DON'T GET ME STARTED ABOUT REASON!!!!

I had this ill ass synth that used the Matrix arpeggiator that received it's signal from the MPC. Any time I just dumb recorded (no sync) into PT the synth would play and move just fine but whenever I would try to record with the sync on, that instrument and that one only would completely STOP! No arpeggiator, no one drone note, not SHIT!!! Everything would else would work fine.

It's still a mystery to this day....

And that is why AVID can kiss my my narrow black ass!!!

Hey friends what's up ! It's a very important thread. This is a very disgusting and hard to resolve problem. They even produce an synchronizing machines like sync-lock and others , but I don't want to spend $600 for this.


Can you please explain how do you track out from the MPC to your DAW "without sync" . Is there another method to export the tracks to your DAW except MTC and MIDI CLOCK ?

I still can't sync my MPC5000 to record without any delays and that can easy destroy your creative process and energy. 2-4 blank bars, MTC, Midi Clock, 25rate, 30rate - same result. Usually most of the time some of the drums and hi hats come with some delay and this destroys the whole beat. I have to record them several time in order to make them in sync with the beat. several And when you track out only one track at a time the problem is getting real big ... I don't have ADAT on my interface and not enough inputs to track out 8 tracks simultaneously.

How you guys track out your beats, do you use only your main out's of the MPC or use 8 tracks simultaneously ?


So my main question is should I buy an interface with ADAT and track out 8 tracks. This way all the eight tracks will be in sync and I'll be able to track out all the tracks 9usualy 16-20) at two or three times. I intend to buy an RME Multiface. I'm just little unsure about the quality of the ADAT exporting as the recorded sound will be in MONO. And as far as I know when you track out through the mono out puts of the MPC the effects used on the sounds will not be recorded in the DAW. Would you explain guys what would be the best in my situation.

I'm new to this PT/MPC issue... how should the protools session be set up?? What type of track and how should the input output be? No tutorial or instructions I have seen has had this... which I find strange... maybe I am just extra dumb who knows

my beats are always off by a couple of mill a sces when i make mpc master ....but its actualy still on beat! theres just slightly off the grid .... if this is your prob do wut i do .... move the tracks back or forwrd to line wit the grid perfectly and BAM! ur beat is lined up wit the grid/metranomeunder

yesterday i did notice under setup then clickin session a window pops up and gives you all sorts of sych / frame rate options etc... i might try to screw around wit this next time i track a beat out and if n e thing improoves ill give this thread a holla ... but might be a while cuz not producin right now just tryin to finish album up! untill then try wut i said above!
