You can buy them
new at
http://www.htfr.com/ for £700 which ends up being around $1050-1100 USD shipped (store is in UK but they ship via fedex so you get it pretty quickly). They offer their own warranty plus you get manufacturer warranty.
Don't buy a used MPC unless you can get it for under $900 (unless it is treated extremely well or upgraded heavily), it's really not worth buying someone's used stuff when you can spend $100-200 and get a brand new unit. Keep in mind these aren't even in production anymore so getting a new unit is becoming increasingly difficult.
Black fat pad upgrade = $40
3rd party ram upgrade + CD/dvd drive = $20-30
Screen upgrade = $90-110 (or less if you can score a non mpc-stuff one)
Black buttons = $10-15 can of plasti-dip + masking tape.
LEDs = a few cents if you know how to solder
Could be less than $150- 200 to do all those mods yourself, and none of them are hard to do or time consuming.
It does have a 160 gig HD and JJOSXL which would cost you another ~$200, but to be honest you can just get a cheap 32-64 gig CF card for $40-100 which will outlast the HD with moving parts and make no noise/heat.
