MPC 2000 sample conversion: 16 bit to 12

Allright, I know for everyone witha 2000xl you can resample at a lower rate, adding the "grit" to your drum Kits. The 2000 doesn't offer this option, So I want to know if there is a way to get the same "crunch" either with the MPC or some other form of non-expensive equipment or software. I have a Mac, and as for my Drums, I use a Boss 202 and various hidden treasures from stacks of Wax.

O.K., I might just be over looking something obvious or I may just be in the wrong place. I have read the faq. sheet posted on the other page which eventually led me to here. In the TRIM function, select ZEDIT, leading to EDIT. Whenever I enter the window, it only gives me the option of SILENCE, REVERSE, DELETE, ect. I believe I do not have the RESAMPLE feature b/c it is a 2000 model. MPC Editor is a PC application that allows you to create programs. The new programs can then be exported to floppy or disk from the editor and perform conversions on the sound file (i.e. WAV->SND). One of the features is to convert the WAV file from 16 to 12-bit when exporting.

Stick with me on this one ..., I checked out the web site you had suggested but I do not think it would do me any good, I own a Mac. I am not to Tech-savy or computer oriented, is there any way of working around the fact it is a PC application? Or maybe ytou know of some other non expensive software that will help me do the same procedure. Thanks again ...

I don't think it does 12 bit conversion, but check MPC PGM Maker it is for mac and is similar to the Editor.

There's plenty of vst effects that can do bit conversion. The first one that springs to mind is Decimate. Checkout: http://www.soundhack.com/ to download it. You'll need a vst host to run it though, most sequencers or wave-editors will do.

Allright! I can virtually hear the beats of my future. I think this may be what I am looking for. Like I said before, I am a bit computer illterate - I am still exploring this one now. Where do I find this VST host? I visted the web site you suggested and downloaded the +DECIMATE program. When I try to run the program it states it is unable to find the application that created the program. Could this be VST host I am looking for? I also attempted to download the SOUNDHACK program but at the time I was unable to find a connection. When I establish a successful connection and download, will this be the solution I am looking for? still with me on this one? Much thanks ... Oh, and Big ups to ELMACACO for the suggestion ...

I'm not an expert on Mac software, i use a pc myself.
But if i were in your shoes, i'd start by trying a decent wave-editor. Threre's plenty of free ones on the net, the more advanced programs will cost at leats $100.
Since you only want to tweak your samples a bit, you could probably get away with a free trial version. This will cost you nothing either, most of them will time out after a couple of minutes or have some other limitations untill you buy the full product but this shouldn't be a problem for you.
Try Bias Peak. It's a great program that accepts vst plug-ins.

I posted this solution already, but in a different location, but I'll do it again for ya.
Since you already have another sampler, pitch the sample up on your Boss sampler and sample it into the MPC. Speed the sample up to the point where it's really fast, but not too fast. When it's in the MPC, speed it down to the normal speed. You will hear a difference, and the dirt will be there too. Play with your samplers untill you get to know them both better. After a while, you will know a cetrian speed will get a certain result, and the faster you pitch the sample, the more dirt will be produced, and any two 16bit samplers can do this. I also have an Emax (12bit) and I honestly like using this technique more than using the actual old-school sampler.
