Just wanted to say what's up to everyone here. Just picked up an MPC 2000 moving away from software. Long time Fl user since FL 2. I'll be scanning these forums now looking to get my MPC going. Been trying to hear my records to sample off from but not sure how to get sound into my headphones or monitors. All I hear is the 4 count metronome in record mode??? Guess I'll figure it out soon. I have a Technic Sl-1700, a TS-750 Phono preamp, and just picked up a Behringer MX1604A Mixer.

 Sorry, I had to laugh.

What you are doing is recording a sequence, not samples. Yeah, I know you see the red Record button but thats not for recording samples. Try holding MODE button and press the pad that reads RECORD, you'll get into the sampling mode and be able to hear your incoming source, when you're ready to sample, hit the DO IT button to sample.

Be sure to get the manual at http://akaipro.com/mpc2000

^ yeah, shift+4 .. then you go to shift+5 to trim the sample into something usable.. then you go to shift+6 to assign it to a pad.
