This is my world, Guitar Center is just paying rent.

Man when I lived in the states I had a love hate relationship with going to Guitar Center.

Loved going and looking at all the gear I wanted to buy. The list always grew from window shopping. Usually a few cool folks working there who helped with questions too.

Hated the background noise. It was always like the most off-beat jarring crap coming from the drum room, with someone's bad rendition of Stairway to Heaven from guitars and a bunch of people playing the "Squelching Noise" preset at full blast on the keys. To top it off there were usually instructional music videos playing loudly at the same time.

Love the hands on feel for the new and used gear.

Hate going into the DJ room and hear 16 year olds telling thier mums they want a CDJ deck because it looks like thier DJ Hero turntable and the 20 year old wanna-be djs asking "Can I hook my iPod Touch to it to DJ?"

Anyone who regularly goes to the same GC, really needs to strike up a convo with the manager of the dept. you frequent and try and build a rapport with them. If you keep coming back to them only and they are concerned with their numbers at all- they can and will flow you deals...I saved almost a grand just by going back to the same manager time after time.

Oh hell yeah... been going to the same Guitar Center since it opened here in '98. A lot of employees have come and gone. I always had my regular sales people for as long as they were employed there. I think my dude LJ is still there. I don't see him much. So when that happens, I establish rapport with the next salesperson who's been there long enough. Usually it'll be whoever's always answering the phone when I call the Pro Audio Dept. I usually get the person's name right away and work with them, since they made sure what I was looking for is in stock, before wasting gas and having to travel to another GC or even Sam Ash if I needed that item that very same day.

For the most part, I shop on Amazon and find unbelievable deals!!!!
No joke, I got a few deals with mentioning...

DigiTech Hardwire guitar pedals: Chromatic Tuner, Metal Distortion, Tube Overdrive... all regularly $99.99, I bought for around $69.99 on average!

Akai APC-20: regularly $199... I snatched it up for $136.99.

Korg PadKontrol: regularly $199... paid $149.99

I bought countless other items and saved more than ever. But the only thing is that you need to make sure you know what you're buying so that you don't have to wait for it to arrive, find out you don't like it, ship it back and wait for your money (the refund process is easy, as I've done before, returning the ex's Christmas gifts.. lol).
But sometimes it comes down to a matter of "Time Is Money" and I need to try out a piece of gear right away and get back to making music. That's when I usually go to Guitar Center, this way if I have to return something, I'll go back the next day and decide what to do from there with my refund.

i'd rather just order online from sweetwater or whatever website... most have free shipping, no tax since i order from out of state, and they'll match/beat anyone else's prices... and you don't have to deal with all the noise and employees that don't even know what an MPC is.

might as well just clock in...
