Adding punch to a bassline

I'm trying to figure out a bassline for this loop and I got a problem. The bass in the first part of the loop is not as punchy as the second part. I added bass in Logic via midi. Velocity is not the problem since the levels are fine. When I put the first part notes an octave lower the bass becomes too deep (quieter).

Why the first part of the bass is not punchy? Any suggestions?

yeh i thought it sounded pretty good. try experimenting with velocity and filter / eq, might take that "deep" bit out.

when foxing with subbass or deeper bass, the high notes appear louder than the low notes but they arn't. sometimes simply turning the volume of the higher notes down slightly and giving them a diff eq treatment / filtering is enough to make it "feel" level across the volume range.

sure, sample it if you like. its actually a sculpture's preset "warm electric fingered bass" if you use logic.

get a bass then punch it


or sample some farts and LPF den turn it up

Sounds even to me too. It might be what you are listening to it on, might have one of those annoying little spikes in its freq response.

Are your speakers front ported

Give it a listen on headphones, see if that's any different.

Yup, it sounds good on headphones. I guess you are right. The problem is room acoustics and monitor placement.

I'm not sure what you mean by front ported monitors? I use yamaha hs10s.
