p.s. a cool feature in the Cut and Paste menu would be a list of different names, i.e. you'd have an extra button named NAMES, press it and you get a scrollable list of different words that you can copy and the quickly paste into the name field for quick file naming. To add words to the list you'd copy an existing name and paste in there.[/i]

Digging in the forums for good requests; I remember Astronaut made this a while ago.
Here is the thread: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=149405

When the standard alpha-numeric comes up pressing shift will switch the alpha numeric to a list of names that can have categories on the function keys. One function must be an edit screen (F6) where you can name the function key and add to the list of names.

Just in case you want to copy a list to another function key pressing numeric will let you select and copy and I guess paste will be undo.

This request may need a file type called .TXT so you can save your list of names.

i like this one.

drop a txt file in your autoload folder with list of names you regularly use.

would be nice if the dialog could also auto increment the names. so say you have something named kick, if you tried to name another sample the same, it would ask to auto increment kick_001.wav

I'd also say that you shouldnt have to copy and paste, but instead you could just scroll the list of names then "select" the one you want, then edit it if you choose.

reanimating this topic.

This is something that would make my work-flow so much easier and faster, especially when accompanied by a doobie.

yep, instead of the "sample name already exists!!!"

I think this is just laziness. Really I do. I mean there is limited space in The os so why try turn it into a word processor. I try not to be negative and supportive but this request just blows me away. It's all ready got cut and paste names info, so why not be methodical in your work flow. All ya got a do is make a folder with all names you want in your auto load. That's an idea. How much percentage of your time is spent naming things? It's only say 10% right? So this is like the worst request I have ever read because it's not adding anything special or really usefull. It's just useless really and if you have to name a hundred files then wouldn't just batch process them on your computer instead. So a big fat -1 from me for this.

It's not about laziness at all. Sometimes I find myself spending a lot of time naming samples, tracks, sequences... etc.. instead of jamming, recording on the fly, creating....

You might be a master of naming but for me it's a real slowdown. You're probably assuming that everybody has the same work flow as you.

The name list might not add anything special to your work flow but it sure will make my life much easier. :)

Living in a ever-improving world I feel there is a better way to name things.

Use the Pads and the banks for your list of names. So, this means you could only have 64 names to use.

The standard one line alpha numeric could be still be used but it will be in a 5 X 10 array placed on the far left.

ABCDEFGHI
JKLMNOPQRS
TUVWXYZ_01
23456789&#-
!()$'{}

Then on the far right you would see your list of name in a 4 X 4 array. That corresponds to the pad layout.

Snare__________ Beat___________ Verse 2___________ Date______________
Kick____________ Hook___________ Verse 3___________ Keyboard1_________
Hat_____________ Bridge___________ Strings___________ Keyboard2________
Intro____________ Verse 1__________ Piano___________ Keyboard3 _______

As for incremental numbers JJ can create a global variable that counts each time you press the pad or count after the previous number used.

Pressing the bank button would give you another 16 names.

All the F# keys need no changing.

im with bliprock, you lazy f*ckers

i save each beat into its own folder, though i agree with the numbering thing,

eg, you load kick, kick already loaded so it auto calls it kick 2 or something, but really, that only takes one scroll of data wheel to change that name, so why **** with the text files?

calm down there peepin. No need for that, though I think you are being a bit cheeky. I -1 this and state my reasons, as stated above. Do not rile people up, as they have just as much a vested interest in JJOSXL as much as you and I so do not go off the deep end there. I try to give my reasons and sway the argument, your not helping peepin, but all good 8)

what, where was i riling anyone up?

I just think its not a very good request, and think the numbering of same names is a much better idea by automatically adding a prefix to the name, rather than having a bunch of names to pick from.

I said that above, thought it was pretty clear, and also, i was agreeing with you.

Just use numerical key.

i have assigned the num block on my 2500 to the modes i use the most (trim, save, etc.).

so for me using the numerical keys for inputting numbers is not an option.
